"Judge Juan Merchan said Trump can appear in person or virtually for the sentencing, and that he won't order Trump jailed."

"Merchan said that "a sentence of an unconditional discharge appears to be the most viable solution to ensure finality and allow Defendant to pursue his appellate options," but he would not grant Trump's request to vacate the verdict."

My understanding of an unconditional discharge is that Trump is still guilty but he would be released without serving prison time, probation, or any other conditions.

The sentencing must be completed before an appeal can happen, so this would allow Trump to start the appeal process.

The judge upholds Trump's felony conviction but plans on issuing an unconditional discharge which means no jail time or probation. The decision to uphold the conviction means Trump will be the first felon to serve as president. Which now begs the question, how do we address him after January 20th - President Felon Trump, or just President Felon?

Fine as long as we can put one on Biden before he is stuffed in the old folks home and we prosecute and convict every criminal that kept up the charade of his fitness for the entire term. Criminals one and all, without question. Jill Biden first and foremost criminal.
Sure, charge and try them. Go for it.

But for what, exactly?

Tish, tish, don't be so bitter. Besides, the title "President Felon Trump" has a nice ring to it!

I don't see a crime in there. That's the thing about arresting someone. They need to have actually committed a crime.

You don't? Too bad, I guess you weren't the judge or jury here that found him guilty... and fined him millions. thankfully.

Don't care, still your president lol
Yep still our president... guilty of financial felony and sexual abuse. You'll never change that today or through history. It's in the books. Must bother you a lot. Glad you support that scruffy, character counts. 😂

It is incontrovertible that the New York state legal system weaponized itself in response to Trump being president.

He lived and worked in New York his entire life. But only after becoming president does all this happen.

Banana Republic indeed.
These crimes didn't occur until he was running for President.

You're a moron.

They're not even trying to hide that they're fascists. Lynne Cheney is going to be arrested don't you know.

Anything that mildly annoys them is "crime". Stephen Miller and Co-President Elon are probably already getting ready to arrest anyone who gives them a look they don't like.

Forget the criminal aspects of this episode. Just the sordidness of the facts here would have disqualified anyone else from public office, let alone the Presidency.

And of course all this protesting about Trump's criminal conviction is coming from the same people who fall onto their fainting couches at the mention of Bill/Monica and Hunter Biden's indiscretions.
