This is one of many reasons why I never understood those who said they were voting Trump because of “policy.”

Really? You’re in favor of massive deficits and skyrocketing inflation? That’s why you want Trump?

More at play than that but yes that comment alone doesn't.

I think the point is that removing the debt ceiling debate takes away a balwark for the slim GOP majority to pass their agenda without waiting to feel the public sentiment. The debt ceiling at the very least keeps these issues in the public eye instead of in the dark.

I can only think of times when the Rs used the debt ceiling to force Dems to back down.

No, but they have in the past used these brinksmanship positions to great advantage in the court of public opinion, something they have almost completely abandoned trying to win.
