Fort McCoy is currently undergoing a massive renovation. The base in Wisconsin housed 12,000+ Afghan refugees in 2021, and during training surges has supported 149,000 personnel.
The current project involves building new facilities, and moving / refurbishing WW2 era barracks which are still functional. The base is easily reached via rail and road, and has an airfield that can accommodate Air Force transports.
Why wouldn’t Trump utilize this US of A ready facility which would be much more economical and logistically easy for his operation?

30-60 days,... These are intended to be short term stays while awaiting transfer to home country or alternate...
Guantanamo is intended to be for the worst of the worst,.. These are the type that require armed guards, you want them out of the country immediately, and you cannot have them mixed in with general population deportees...
Both McCoy and Camp Dodge could take a vast majority. In cheaper and safer confines.

Judging by Trump's wall promise this place probably never gets built. Trump is simply too incompetent to follow through on projects like this. He promises the world but when it comes down to the actual logistics he gives up and moves onto the next item of bullshit.
