based on comments trump has made, i don't think he really gives a shit about guns as an issue one way or the other

but he knows - or will quickly find out - how fast his political support will erode if he ever did anything about guns...so he or one of his minions might say something not in line with NRA policy - but that will quickly be excused or ignored and no actual action would ever be taken
