Merriweather up first. Said he learned a lot last year after getting injured. Learned the game and seeing what Stone, Koerner, and Belton were doing. Then this summer he did everything Phil Parker asked him to do so he could contribute this year. Said he used last year to really grow mentally and helped him become better this year.
Asked about the interception numbers. Said 11 games in a row and it's not as easy as it seems.
Asked what Phil Parker wanted to see. Fly more to the ball, more film work, and be a leader in the meeting room. Said he learned a lot from Geno and Amani Hooker in his first two years. Merriweather says he prides himself on being physical. Said they joke with Coach Parker about how hard of a hitter he was when he played. Says everything he preaches really helps you in terms of where you are on the field and the steps you take on the field. Merriweather says he gives all the credit for the interception numbers to the defensive line. Doesn't happen without them.
Asked about the steps in program that have been taken since June. He said a lot of positive steps. The leadership group is better and brings feedback to Coach Ferentz along with former players helping. More open lines of communication.
