Details to come out, but supposedly she is here legally on a proper student visa. DHS is saying the arrest is valid because she “engaged in activities in support of Hamas" but has not specified anything further. She did write an OpEd in the student newspaper in support of Gaza but that is all I can find.
Too early to tell if she is really "engaged in activities to support Hamas" and it will be the government's responsibility to support this claim. If true, I'd support deportation.
However, if it's just words of support in an OpEd or participating in non-violent protest - would you support this response? I would not and this is pretty freaky.
Also, the arrest itself is freaky as shit. Six plain clothes officers converge on a 20-something woman? Minimal announcement of who they are until she's detained? Won't pull down masks? Kudos to whomever spoke up and asked who the phuck they are. Shady as phuck. I'm not a fan. She has been sent out of Massachusetts to Louisiana.
Depending on the details, I could see this case becoming a litmus test for how this administration is handling deportations. If she is not engaging in "active support of Hamas," is here legally, and has done everything right but is only giving an opposing viewpoint that is unpopular to those in power....and this is the response? THAT is not America.
