Turk's Injury

Cause of how well he wrestles in the practice room? There have been a million practice room warriors. Cause of his win over Gross? I'm not going to sit here and bash on a kid I like. I'm saying looking at his resume there is nothing there that says otherwise.

Carton is very close to being very good. Let's hope he can have a great year.

I'm not basing it off anything, but I can tell you with 100% certainty Tom Brands had zero idea who would represent us at 141lbs in March so I have no idea how you could. There was ALOT of wrestling to be done to solve that spot. I've seen and heard plenty of reports on Turk that suggested he had more than a good shot at earning the spot this year. Staying healthy has always been the biggest hurdle for Vince... Sad to see it have to play out this way.

Turk went 18-4 with a couple decent wins as a redshirt. He didn't set the world on fire, but I don't see it as being unreasonable to think that he could unseat a 5th year senior that has never wrestled in March.

I agree. I would never wish this in my worst enemy. From what I HAVE seen of Turk that is what I thought. That is based on his results from last winter and spring.

Carton would have qualified for nationals if given the spot bc he would not have been unseeded. He has trouble finishing but we'll see if that's improved. He was also small for the weight and looks to be a little bigger this year.

I think at the very least the battle to win the spot would have pushed all involved. On top of that, even if Carton would have won the spot, Turk loses a year of development being sidelined and unable to practice and compete. That blows.

Like wasdt said Turk grew as well, sad too see him hurt. :-(
Hope Topher takes the bull by the horns cause Glynn gets mauled by Carter. No offense to anyone. Glynns' gotta be our "Most Improved Wrestler"

So if (and its a big if) Happel goes to Midlands and outperforms Carton, does his shirt get pulled?

I'd say let's wait until we see him wrestle in an actual open before we even start wondering if he can start. Anyone know what other teams are going to Lindenwood?

I think some posters on here have the opinion that we kinda know what we're getting with Carton. 5th year senior who hasn't been able to crack the lineup yet. Turk has upside and so does Happel. Happel's potential generates conversation.

True it probably generates more discussion but at this point we've only seen Happel dominate vastly inferior competition. Hopefully this weekend presents an opportunity to give Happel a big win.

7-8suited, you posted that there was/is "shoulder surgery." Haven't read anything describing the nature of the injury, but I apologize for asking if you were a troll, as it's pretty clear there was a season ending injury. Very sorry to hear, and hope Turk heals fully.

Regarding 141#, realistically, my hopes for getting points in March from Carton, Happel, or anyone else on the team are not high. Carton got mauled 16-3 by Andrew Long last season. Happel got beat handily at Fargo by Lee of Indiana (now a sr in HS).

Hope I'm wrong, but it seems 141 and 197 are holes in the lineup, as is 165, unless Marinelli goes. With 3 weights not giving Iowa much help at ncaa, the others are really going to have to step up, if Iowa is to have a chance against PSU and Okla St.

fwiw I've been told Carton was getting the best of Turk in the room but I haven't seen it first hand.
Topher got the H2H win but the spot was going to be settled by how they do against others. I think Topher will be ranked in the top 12 this season which puts him as an AA candidate. The guy just needed to finish better last year. He's strong, tough on top, and great endurance. His coming out party will be beating Gullybon and his confidence will grow. Hopefully Turk can finally get fixed and healthy.

Like I said yesterday in the Luther video thread, it looked like a labral injury. You can only hope it's a minor tear and the bicep isn't involved. I just had my third shoulder surgery Monday, second on my right in six months. They did a bicep tenodesis this time, my career is over. However, my left is strongest joint in my body now. You never know how they'll turn out, but he is young and will have the best ortho and PT available.

Yes, similar to the way Tyler Clark would best Tony Ramos. Or Jake Kerr and Aaron Janssen. However, against common opponents in the room, Turk had been more urgent and dominant... Much like Ramos and Janssen. Just some recent examples that reminded me much of the Turk/Carton situation.

I like both guys and see a lot of things I like about Topher, but Turk is a young guy and I was hoping he was going to break out this year. Hope the best for the young man and his recovery. Here's to getting 100% behind Carton this year.

Fair or not I was pulling for Turk, only because he is younger and we will have him for more than this year. If what I read above is mostly true and Carton was getting the upper hand in the room, then I guess it is better then it holding up and happening later in the year or next year. The recovery just needs to cooperate.
Bottom line, Topher needs to over perform this year!!
