I would say Moss and Brents will be the corners moving fwd. Really gives you a sense of optimism knowing they have two stud Safeties behind them and when the time comes they will help transition the new safeties. Might have to take some lumps but if "we" can survive and advance the future looks awesome.

And the thing is, Moss never really got "beat," as others have noted. Nobody ran by him or was wide open. It was just for awhile he lost sight of the ball. He was in position all day long and, had he just turned his head, he might have had at least a couple more INTs. I'd say that's pretty dang good work for a kid who was playing ball in Ankeny a year ago.

This was my thought as well. I kept shrieking in vain "look for the ball!" he was right there on the first TD and the long gainers in the first half. Granted, I was observing from the upper deck. Someone who had a better look - was he out of position on any of the pass plays he gave up?

No. He was in position every time I saw him. At least the plays towards what I would assume to be the east end of TCF Banks stadium. Visitor side, to the right being west?

I didn't have binos, so not 100% sure, but almost 100% sure about the passing plays towards the east end zone, or whatever direction it is I described above.

I would assume Parker and others teach the DB on a route like that to avoid turning around too much maybe? As soon as you turn your head you lose a half step to a full step and then you're toast. Just curious if this is true that you wait until the WR looks back, raises his arms and then the DB punches at the ball? Seems like that is the new technique but I'm sure others here know more than I do!

On the first deep ball he actually did get a full punch in the ball. The WR actually made a great catch to hold onto it.

LBs Benson and Doyle with an appearance on the depth chart and a good shot to see the field this week.

Here's the thing: In any sport, it's the ball that will beat you, not the player. Just like in basketball when you must keep one eye on the player you're defending and one on the ball, D-backs must play the receiver first, but then they must turn and find the ball. The receivers never beat Moss, but the ball did several times. Once Riley started finding the ball, he was awesome.

I would say you are wrong. As soon as the older guys are completely healthy they will start.

I would say you are wrong. They are listed and one of which played special teams. They have been passed. If you are a lounger its discussed in the moss/Brent's thread.

I don't know anything about that. But the DB can read eyes in most instances, and can certainly see when the receiver is getting ready to catch the ball.

It will be interesting to see the response of MO going forward. ..as in next season if he is healthy and doesn't start. Could be another Rugumba situation.

That's weird the info at the top seems to support my stance.

I haven't read anything additional, but are we certain the depth chart reflects that Hankins is completely ready for Saturday? Or is it possible he's listed as backup but really isn't expected to play? We have seen previously where the depth chart isn't necessarily the 100% truth with this staff.

Wrong again. The depth chart is looking back not forward.
While I know KF is notorious for using the same sheet week after week the 2 deeps listed for Indiana are for the upcoming game. Just out of curiosity, why are you so set Hankins has not been passed?

Because he is damn good. And they were both injured and missed practice during the week. You don't get passed just because you get injured. Also, KF has mentioned that if you don't practice during the week, you don't play. They were both available but because they missed practice time they weren't going to start and Hankins was only going to play in an emergency.

At this early juncture - I'd say that it might be hard to say. Both Ojemudia and Hankins had just come off of injury .... and both had been really strong in run support. Ojemudia had just been cleared to play on Friday ... because he didn't get any practice on the primary defensive game-plan ... it made sense that they wouldn't just drop him in as the starter on Saturday. As for Hankins ... I'm not sure that he's been cleared either. If he has been cleared ... I could imagine that they're trying to be careful about making sure that he's good to go before throwing him out there.

What we DO know is that both Riley and Ju Ju played some pretty darn solid ball against the Gophers and the WRs they were covering were no joke. The fact that neither guy seemed to bite on double-moves ... and that both guys were pretty productive in the action that they saw ... I think that both Riley and Ju Ju are trying their very best to make it a difficult decision for Phil (in determining how "his guys" get utilized).

Both Kirk and Phil have said good things about Hankins ... so I wouldn't assume that he's not still firmly in the picture.

Ultimately, the fact that Moss and Brents have put up quality tape ... that should be perceived as putting them in serious contention for the starting spots. However, how the guys practice and how they continue to play in games ... those factors will play critical roles in the decision making too.

I am loving our depth at DE. I just wish there was some way for Eppy to get more playing time.

And is Welch normally ahead of Jones or is that due to the ridiculous targeting call and resulting first half suspension?

I don't know why drunktroll has to dig his heels in whenever he is wrong.

There is zero chance that Moss has passed Hankins for a starting CB spot.

We will watch it play out the rest of the season.

You can't seriously believe this? That take is gonna haunt your cred.

Given how things have transpired this season ... Welch has seen a few starts ... thus, he has more game tape that can be evaluated by the coaches. However, he's also been dinged ... and that could potentially be limiting him some too.

Amani Jones only has a single start ... however, he was also seeing starter-quality reps against the Gophers after Hockaday went out due to injury.

My impression is that had Jones not had the targeting penalty, he would have been our starting MIKE versus IU. However, because he had the targeting penalty ... that opens up the door for Welch if he plays well. It's all about how you produce when you receive your opportunities.

If I remember right, Welch played a game at MLB when Jewell missed some time last year.

You’re thinking of the Illinois game and it was Hockaday that went in. He did have an INT against Nebraska when the game was out of reach
