Two Deeps/Game Notes for Iowa at Indiana

I don't know why drunktroll has to dig his heels in whenever he is wrong.

There is zero chance that Moss has passed Hankins for a starting CB spot.

We will watch it play out the rest of the season.

0%..... I dont think that means what you think that means.

There is 0 chance you have any more of an insider info into who will be the starter moving fwd than I. Good news, I'll hold onto the thread and we will revisit.

Hankins has a cast on his left arm. Had surgery during the bye week and didn't practice at all last week from what it sounded like. Depends how effective he can be playing with the cast in terms of starting/seeing the field. Once he has the cast off, he's clearly a starter, IMO.

I would like to see Young move up as he is usually good for three yards on his own.

LBs Benson and Doyle with an appearance on the depth chart and a good shot to see the field this week.

i believe he didn't practice all week but was ready to play if needed saturday
Then why was he rewarded with mop up duty? If there is a rule that says you need to practice to play, there were other guys for mop up. I get everyone has an opinion and mine is Moss is a good/decent game at Indiana from owning the spot.

If it was the last position in a game that was over, maybe they just wanted to see him in live game play....???

So far this season OJ definately looks the best against the run of all 4 CBs that we have seen to date. Moss played well as a true fresh, but his only hope was diving at legs trying to make a tackle. I would think when healthy ojemudia, takes his starting spot back.

I would think the staff is thrilled to have four corners with game time experience once everyone is healthy. Wish a fifth corner would emerge. I think depth at RB is scary. Three deep and a freshman who doesn't appear ready.

Per KF, missed too much practice to start.

You’re thinking of the Illinois game and it was Hockaday that went in. He did have an INT against Nebraska when the game was out of reach
Yeah, Welch saw some action at the MIKE spot ... but it was exclusively in clean-up duty. However, on the flip side, he was the listed back-up to Josey for pretty much the entire season. Of course, in the game where Josey actually went out ... as others indicated, Phil and Seth just shifted Ben over to the MIKE and had Ward play the LEO spot. That makes sense given the trust that the coaches had in both SRs.

Unless OJ is hurt, I don't see any reason for him to be 2nd team, he played very well in the run game & outside 2 or 3 plays the coverage has been there.
I agree , When healthy, I would expect Hankins and OJ to be starting at corner.

The good news is that with the confidence gained by Brents and Moss ... when Hankins and OJ are healthy ... all of a sudden, the quality of our nickel and dime packages are liking shooting up!

One thing to watch with Indiana this week is if their starting LT plays. He left the game against OSU and didn't return. That would be huge for Iowa.
They also have a DT, S and a couple WRs who are questionable.

DJ Johnson is starting to emerge I read somewhere

Big question is if Eppy has developed the closing speed to cover out on the island. I feel like he has and really should get his shot at CB next week.

In all seriousness, our best DBs right now at full health
1) Hankins
2) Brents
3) OJ / Moss

I think Brents has locked down a starting job for the rest of the season. I think Hankins wrist/hand is going to keep him on the backburner for a while. I think OJ will start again eventually over Moss I think that OJ was a little banged up last week and had to go with Moss and since he played a pretty good game I believe they are going to give him another chance and not rush back OJ.

So, if he was injured enough to not practice during the week, why would the coaches put him in the game with 2 minutes left and his team ahead by 17? They would surely play the 2nd/3rd team players in that situatuon, right? Why take a chance getting a "starter" hurt in that scenario?

I like Brents starting, especially against Indiana where his presence in the line up will be noticed by key Hawkeye recruits out of the Hoosier state.

He's earned the job and IMO will be the next big time corner out of Iowa.

If any of you have twitter follow @markemmert and he just tweeted that OJ had a hamstring injury last week and is working his way back to 100% but might start this weekend and that will be determined as the week goes. made it seem like OJ was on a pitch count last week thus starting Moss instead
