I am still really impressed that Moss is making his mark as a true freshman. As a big track fan, I really thought his future was as a 110HH at the DI level.
I wondered when they brought him onboard if they considered WR as an option, sort of an Andy Brodell 2.0. Looks like things are working out for him pretty on defense

Good to see Hankins on there. LBs are as I expected. It is going to be interesting to see how Wade does. Niemann was playing so well.
That's a relief. As excited as I am about Brents ... the Gophers have a few pretty good WRs ... so I want our best cover guys out there.

Wade must be showing some skill in practice to move in front of Welch. It hasn't seemed like Welch has been overly matched in any games this year. I am hoping that Wade is just too good to keep on the sideline vs Welch having some sort of injury.

When was Brents slated ahead of Hankins? You just addressed a non-issue.
He was only slated to play if Hankins was still too dinged to play. I was simply articulating relief that Hankins is healthy enough to play. While I'm excited about the future of Brents ... I'm just as excited about Hankins!

Groeneweg returning punts after a less than sterling day against Wisky is a bit of a surprise. I really can't recall a punt returner fair catching the ball at the 3 yard line at any level. Maybe Tracy should get a chance.

Groeneweg sure has been given a much longer leash than, for example, Wadley was. And several other recent RBs too. They fumbled, and that was it for them.

I like the G-man a lot, BUT when you just plain drop the ball on a key return, follow that up with a fair catch on the THREE, and THEN set up the accidental touching that cost Iowa the game, well, maybe at least a week on the bench would be a reasonable coaching move after not one, not two, but THREE key mistakes....

Wtf? Just plain drop the ball? Set up the accidental touching?

I agree, I think Colbert earned the start with his play against ISU and Wisconsin, but I wonder if, in this case, it is also a matter of Welch being the back-up at 2 LB positions. A situation where you don't start Welch so he is available to slide into either spot if needed, or you need him to be more fresh because he will sub in at both spots throughout. He will likely garner starter snaps if that is the case.

Colbert played a lot against Wisconsin. I'm wondering if they think he's a bit more solid in both facets of the game (both vs run and pass)?
Colbert has played well so has Welch. Colbert should continue to get better, considering he is a converted CB/Safety from high school. He only has eight quarters of Linebacker experience all with the Hawkeyes

You must’ve not been watching our collective effort last season. He’s doing fine. He’s been better then fine.

If you recall, Nate Stanley dropped the ball twice last year and no one even touched him. Stuff happens.

Sure it does. Tell that to Wadley and the RBs who were benched immediately upon fumbling. And when one player makes THREE key mistakes in one game and keeps his job, well, that's never been the way things are done under KF. As I said, I like the G-man, but c'mon. How many mistakes does he have to make before somebody else gets a shot?

Or maybe you folks don't recall that Amani Jones was yanked early in his first start at MLB this year and hasn't gotten his job back yet.

KF doesn't like TOs and mental mistakes. Who does? And so how Groeneweg has managed to keep his job is pretty crazy, IMHO. And if I were the next man in, I'd be wondering what has to happen before I got a chance.

You know, it's not hard to see what you are intimating, especially when you bring Amani Jones into it.

Wrong.

Obviously my definition of fine is vastly different than yours. I don't fault him for the fumble because it was a freaky play. But you simply don't fair catch the ball at the three to save two yards of field position. And failing to fair catch the ball on the play where Beyer touched it set up that disaster.

Banwarts must still be ailing. I thought he was playing really well before getting hurt.
That's potentially what I'd surmise. As I recall, I believe that they're still rotating him in ... it's just nice to build some continuity on the OL too. If Ferg is healthy and good to go ... he gives something for the OL to build from.
