If Hankins does indeed get the start, as listed, he'd be the 3rd true freshmen to start this year, joining Tristan Wirfs and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

Speaking of punt returns. Would you rather have a speedster averaging 12 yards a return who will break off a long return once every 10 returns and fumbles once out of 20 returns or a guy who takes a fair catch 90% of the time, never fumbles and averages 5 yards a return?

Because he paid his dues? Kirk rewards hard work and time in the program over athletic ability and potential. How many times have we had a star on the bench in favor of a 5th yr senior?
who is this star that is sitting?

Home run hitter every time. We need offense the defense gets hosed enough give them a break 9/10 times if it means putting thier backs against the wall 1/10.

I actually think one of the best things this staff could do is go find one of them 5'6-7, 9 second100yd dash, "too small for d1" missles. (Think andre harris but actually playing) and say "hey kid you are going to get to play D1 football. You have 1 jib you are going to do and your going to do it well for 4 years. Punt returns. Go work your A$$ off and see if you can make NFL special teams. (Then have this kid do NOTHING but feild punts and life weights for 4 years) it's almost a "money ball" way to play football find the guy no one wants that can do 1 thing REALLY WELL and let him just do that 1 thing. (If you wondering where the scholly comes from we are light and I think we can skip 1 year qb with our current situation.)

Except for the guy who always calls fair catches just fumbled in the last game. Against Wisconsin he allowed 50 yards of roll of punts he didn't field.. we should have nobody back there it would turn out better for Iowa then having vandy back there

I can't believe it took this long for coaches to realize they should be throwing at Manny instead of Jackson. the Wisconsin coach is suppose to be smart and kept throwing to the right. Ohio State didn't pick up on it either.

Did I say this year with Vandy?

Im betting we have 4 or 5 guys that could replace Vandy with better results.
Who should be returning punts?

Maybe Quarells, Young? I bet we have a few DBs/RBs that have the hands, speed and presence of mind to field the punt and take a chance occasionally.

Do you think Vandy is the PR if he was at another P5 school?

Its not a knock on Vandy, I think he is a serviceable receiver, but he doesn't look comfortable at PR.

All depends on when and against whom he fumbles. Does it cost Iowa an important game? Everything isn't black and white.

Well don't you think if someone exhibited hands, speed, and presence of mind to field a punt in practice they would be playing? Just a thought.

True, but it also depends on when they take one to the house and who they do it against.

I like Vandy, but he seems tentative returning punts.

Heck, put Wadley at PR.

Honestly don't know the answer, and evidently neither do the coaches. Wadley was tentative returning kickoffs, and Jackson couldn't decide when to catch the ball on punt returns......

Tomorrow AW should handle kicks, punts and play about 90% of the offensive downs. For what is he being saved in a must win situation in game 12?
