Tyler Wahl…

I hate his game. His move where he backs down, backs down, backs down--then shoots a short jump hook, while his 4 teammates are standing around is disgusting. I think it hurts his own team and is terrible basketball. Most pinchable since Brad Davison.

He is effective with that back down, shoot with either hand move.
I know Payton guarded him at times in first half effectively but maybe Ben pitched in also.
When he got it rolling in the 2nd half Ben had no answer.
If he does not foul out, we lose.
Like when Garcia went out in the Minny game, we caught a break and took advantage of it.

The backdown stuff is actually pretty easy to guard. As soon as he dribbles, the quickest defender should flash in make him pick up his dribble, then flash back out. That forces him to pass or shoot where he stands. Unfortunately, Iowa is slow and lazy on defense.
Right on both points - get a help defender on him and Iowa’s rotation defense is slow.

Wahl put up 2 consecutive baskets in OT over Krikke----seeems effective to me. He's got a talent for being able to score from low post. If he was an above the rim athlete or had a 3pt shot, he'd be a highly effective player vs just a solid player that he is.

Hell has a special place for basketball floppers. There is no way anyone will ever match Brad Davidson is punchability.

I have not really cared for Wahl since his freshman year at Wisconsin as he seems to be an ***. But last year it went to dislike when he walked off the court with a big smirk waving goodbye to Iowa fans at Carver. He obviously did not think at that time he was coming back. But Iowa did get the last laugh last night and I was hoping fans would give him **** when he walked off (not so cocky I might add).

Oh yeah, and I really dislike the "bully" ball BS.

Brian cardinal from Purdue always had that most-punchable face to me forever in B10

However - I’d love to have a guy like Wahl on this iowa team

Iowa is indeed awful @ defense, with that said. What time does your team play today. I’d like to watch them, it’s clear your near the top of the coaching profession and I’m applying for the Iowa job s as nd would like to get some pointers….

has perhaps the most punchable face in college BBall! That’s all! Oh yeah and Fvck U Wisky! Pr!cks.
The entire team seems to exhibit a crappy unsportsmanlike demeanor that can be quite frustrating. Their style of play often involves questionable tactics, such as cheap shots and they also foul nonstop, which drives me nuts because they know the refs won't call all of them. It's disappointing to see them succeed through such tactics, as it detracts from the game.

Krabbenhoft, the assistant coach for Wisky, cheap-shotted Matt Gatens when they played against each other years ago. I have always considered that some Wisconsin players were dirty. Davison was definitely the worst.
It would be interesting to hear what Dean Oliver has to say about the Wisconsin shenanigans.

Very good diagnosis. Just be the help defender that sticks their hand in there to stop the dribble and then get back on your guy or in your zone area.

Iowa has been bad at this for a long time and then also bad at recovering on defense

I thought we did better late in the game - probably Brock flashing in quick and right back out. Sometimes he even got a quick hand on the ball too.

I thought I might dislike Wisky a bit less when Bo left, but didn’t happen when Coach Gard defended Davison after he nut punched Conner—got caught—cost them the game and was actually suspended. Their shit style of basketball continues.

Not a fan of how Wisky coaches their players to play, but Wahl is the type of player Iowa has been missing. If he isn't in foul trouble against Iowa, it is highly unlikely we win the game.

Someone needs to explain to me how what Wahl (and many other players) do is not an offensive foul. They just back up while dribbling, sometimes throwing hips or shoulders into the defender, until they are close enough to either throw up an easy hook shot, or turn and go for a layup, which if not made is usually called a foul on the defender even though he is just standing there while the offensive player jumps into him. That 'clear out' play is what ruined the NBA for me, when everyone on the offense would clear out of the lane and allow Jordan or Barkley, et al, to back in one-on-one to score. Boring! Shaq was the master of it and fouled every time he did it with no call, except usually on the defender. I was happy when the NBA started allowing zone defenses because then that play could be defended.

That is the Wisconsin style I hate. If the defender holds his ground, they are usually called for a foul. Don’t blame them for doing it—-not sure how you defend it unless you out weigh him by 40 pounds.

I remember the first time I was made aware of Wahl. He was inserted into the game against Iowa and within seconds he had launched an elbow into Garza's face. I know immediately that they had found a punk to continue the Badger tradition of dirty play.

Yeah they just have to actually take the time to work on the double team (which they won't).

All they'd need to do is practice where to send the double from and how to rotate help off it.

It's not that hard to figure out at the college level.........

It'd be one thing if it were an Eddy situation where they're designed to dump it to him and have him kick to the open man (by design) off whoever doubles him......but f***ing Wahl takes an hour to back his guy down while everyone else watches like they're playing street ball.

In fairness to Iowa, Wisconsin has been effective for years at passing out of the post. iowas not always great at recovering from help defense, but Bucky has made a living for years out of that offense.

Haven't you heard. BB is a full contact sport now.

You just described lots of Garza’s game.
