What it boils down to is the U of I is and never has been committed to winning a championship in football or bb. Barta can go on scheduling cupcakes, signing coaches to ridiculous contracts (7 wins per year, seriously?), and running mediocre sports programs. I live in the middle of Nebraska country and, although they haven't been great, I hear them saying they are striving for a championship. When is the last time you heard Kirk say that? I can't ever remember him saying that. The bottom line is they can throw out all the excuses they want (Iowa is tough to recruit to, etc), but as long as they are comfortable with this mediocrity, nothing will ever change. However, I still think that starts at the top.......They are clearly happy with mediocrity up there.......
