My thoughts on Ulis are scattered throughout the game thread, but would summarize them by saying that he has a tremendous feel for the game, knows where he needs to be, and court awareness is off the charts for a freshman. 4 assists to 0 turnovers on the road as a freshman is awesome. Defense was very solid as well
Would also say that Perkins was unexpectedly thrown into the fire and committed a TO immediately, but adjusted rather well and will ultimately belong as a contributor as well. Very happy with both today
Yeah something tells me that we’re going to be seeing that kick-out to Fredrick again, and sooner rather than laterIowa never gets easy 3 pt looks off penetration. They usually just give them up all game.
Even with Tousaint hes looking to finish at the rim or drop it off.
It was nice to see someone drive and the look for shooters.
Ulis and Joe T are two completely different players.... and I love having both those guys on our team.
Joe T is ultra quick and strong, and I’m guessing has depended on that for all his basketball days. He needs to develop the mental/thinking side of the game to reach his potential. Experience, film study, and coaching will help him reach his potential...which is as a really good B10 guard.
Ulis conversely is a very cerebral player...very smart, skilled, and under control but no where near as quick as Joe. Needs to keep working on his strength and explosiveness and he will be really good.
Fran has been fantastic in his management of this year's roster.I was glad to see Ulis and Perkins play today as I think it is good experience for them. That being said, there were fans calling for more Joe T two games ago. I do think Fran has done a good job with minutes so far this year as he has been sticking with the hot hand.

Keegan + Ulis gave a lot more production than Connor would have given playing the 4 or PG. Ulis had 4 assists and 0 turnovers, Keegan 9 rebounds, good defense, and efficient scoring.
Fredrick needs to look for his 3pt shot more. It was off game for Fredrick and he was still 1/3 from behind arc. Kickouts to Fredrick would be great. Even more 3pt shots from Garza. Ulis definitely was looking to pass and get the assist instead of hunting his own shot. I thought the offense didn't look good because Rutgers was able to make both Fredrick and JoeW inefficient shooters while still denying the ball to Garza in the low post.
That is what I meant.... I am really excited for the future of these two guys. Will they play together much? Maybe? I think it depends on if one or both develop a consistent 3 point shot.He doesnt have Joe's first step quickness if that's what you mean by explosive but Ulis gets off the ground as good if not better.
I think Aaron will be a better finisher too just based on the little I've seen.

I said months ago in the JBO or JT thread that Ulis is probably the best pg on the team.
Hes got all the good tools of Tousaint without the bad decisions.

you know this from one game and a bunch of garbage time?
Good grief people. Ebbs and flows.
