Ulis

He is a difference maker on offense. He needs more minutes.

I was glad to see Ulis and Perkins play today as I think it is good experience for them. That being said, there were fans calling for more Joe T two games ago. I do think Fran has done a good job with minutes so far this year as he has been sticking with the hot hand.

My thoughts on Ulis are scattered throughout the game thread, but would summarize them by saying that he has a tremendous feel for the game, knows where he needs to be, and court awareness is off the charts for a freshman. 4 assists to 0 turnovers on the road as a freshman is awesome. Defense was very solid as well

Would also say that Perkins was unexpectedly thrown into the fire and committed a TO immediately, but adjusted rather well and will ultimately belong as a contributor as well. Very happy with both today

For the bench can insert Keegan, nunge or Toussaint for anyone of the starters and that’s a solid 8. Honestly I’d rather have ulis over Patrick at this point for our 9th guy in the rotation.

ulis I thought did a good job on the zone today and had nice drive for a layup but didn’t try and force the issue too much today. Over shadowed by Keegan off the bench but with Connor going down early he gave us some very quality minutes.

Iowa never gets easy 3 pt looks off penetration. They usually just give them up all game.

Even with Tousaint hes looking to finish at the rim or drop it off.

It was nice to see someone drive and the look for shooters.

Yeah something tells me that we’re going to be seeing that kick-out to Fredrick again, and sooner rather than later

Ulis and Joe T are two completely different players.... and I love having both those guys on our team.

Joe T is ultra quick and strong, and I’m guessing has depended on that for all his basketball days. He needs to develop the mental/thinking side of the game to reach his potential. Experience, film study, and coaching will help him reach his potential...which is as a really good B10 guard.

Ulis conversely is a very cerebral player...very smart, skilled, and under control but no where near as quick as Joe. Needs to keep working on his strength and explosiveness and he will be really good.

He doesnt have Joe's first step quickness if that's what you mean by explosive but Ulis gets off the ground as good if not better.

I think Aaron will be a better finisher too just based on the little I've seen.

Fran has been fantastic in his management of this year's roster.

Keegan + Ulis gave a lot more production than Connor would have given playing the 4 or PG. Ulis had 4 assists and 0 turnovers, Keegan 9 rebounds, good defense, and efficient scoring.

Fredrick needs to look for his 3pt shot more. It was off game for Fredrick and he was still 1/3 from behind arc. Kickouts to Fredrick would be great. Even more 3pt shots from Garza. Ulis definitely was looking to pass and get the assist instead of hunting his own shot. I thought the offense didn't look good because Rutgers was able to make both Fredrick and JoeW inefficient shooters while still denying the ball to Garza in the low post.

I agree with all of this. Best looking point guard play weve seen in a long while.
The team defense with Ulis and Murray was great.

That is what I meant.... I am really excited for the future of these two guys. Will they play together much? Maybe? I think it depends on if one or both develop a consistent 3 point shot.

CJF doesn't take a single bad shot out there, that's why he's shooting a nuclear percentage from 3. The two he missed were just as good of looks as any others he so often drains, they just didn't go in. JoeW just never got in the flow of this game, this one would have really been on him more than anyone else if we'd have lost. But the team picked him up, so hopefully that doesn't make a prolonged slump and he can snap back on Thursday and have a good game.

Ulis played very well today. Small sample size. Go back 2 games and everyone was clamoring for JoeT to start and get more PT. We just beat a very good team today, seems like fran knows what he’s doing and so I think ill trust him

I would guess not as much together next year but most likely often the following.

I think its fair to say that both true freshmen played well, Ahron especially well, when pressed into meaningful minutes. They show great potential. Projecting that into playing Ahron over guys that are proven winners and change a rotation that is working pretty well is a bridge too far, without the Nazis of course.
