Think 12k is a pretty good size. I remember attending games in terry allen era. Watching Kenny shed, Dedrick ward and Warner’s one year. Use to fill the place up or close to. I know have done end zone modifications but seats on sidelines and concourse same as they were in 80s/90s. Last few years watched games and sad to see how empty stands are. Hopefully new coach can turn it around. Sounds like Farley stayed a few years too long and dug the program into a rut.Reducing to 12k isn't enough. I think this stadium needs to be about 8k.
I will miss the Cedar Falls red in the stands though.
They don't need to reduce too much. It's a few of many, but some of the HS semi or title games have thousands of people there
That surface was super fast and it hurt like hell getting tackled on it, assuming it’s the same stuff they had 25 years ago.Hopefully they get rid of that f***ing carpet and concrete surface they call a field.

They did a turf upgrade within the last 10 years, not sure on the exact year. But I'm sure that will be upgraded when the renovation occurs. That surface was super fast and it hurt like hell getting tackled on it, assuming it’s the same stuff they had 25 years ago.
They tried an off-brand FieldTurf about 15 or so years ago that didn't hold up. Because their indoor track is underneath, they need something that is removeable, and so ended up with a more modern version of the Astroturf-ish green carpet and pad system that can be rolled up. My thought would be to do a real FieldTurf installation, and let the indoor track folks find a facility somewhere else, but they haven't asked meThey did a turf upgrade within the last 10 years, not sure on the exact year. When the Dakota schools came in that hurt them as just become a gradual decline between where uni and they are. Use to bank on uni being top 25 every year and make the playoffs and that isn’t the case anymore. That surface was super fast and it hurt like hell getting tackled on it, assuming it’s the same stuff they had 25 years ago.
The UNI dome could get rocking back when the Panthers were a powerhouse. Saw many games in the dome in the 90’s and 2000’s and they always played an exciting brand of football. Sad to see the program in decline.
What is the lifespan on those fields? Can't imagine even a good field would last more than 10-15 years anyway, much less the above scenario. They tried an off-brand FieldTurf about 15 or so years ago that didn't hold up. Their spring softball tournament was on ESPN+ a couple of years ago. The ball takes those really springy high hops like what used to happen on the early artificial baseball surfaces.
It's pretty damn soft compared to regular grass field.Hopefully they get rid of that f***ing carpet and concrete surface they call a field.
