UNI takes out Ohio st.

Or some teams don't put any emphasis on the dual meet season?
In Tom Ryan's case, he hasn't exactly been "lighting it up" in tourney competition either.

Listen, I get the sarcasm in your post, and I certainly realize how desperate KD is for any success after 4/5 years with so little to show.

Edit...this is already Dresser's 6th year with no top ten finishes at Nattys for ISU.

That will change. Quickly. Dresser has changed a steaming pile of poo six years ago into a legit top 10 or even top 5 team. And they’re much younger than most teams around them. Some people who keep ragging on Dresser are in denial.

We will see.

Wrestling at Nattys is a three day grind. A good dual team doesn't automatically equate to a good tourney team.

They're a young team compared to who?

Dressers team is tough, I’ll call it, 4th
Half of their lineup is unproven. That's a lot of pressure to put on the other 5 starters. Add in a misfire somewhere else along the line and they won't land anywhere near a team trophy.

Over the past 6 years the 4th place team averaged 79 points. That's a lot of ground to cover and I don't know where they'll get it from. They're entire team could place 5th and they still don't hit the mark.

A perfect tourney could get them 4th, but with that run they'll probably have to send at least 3 guys to the finals to pull it off.

Personally, I don't see that happening. But I'm wrong a lot. At least according to my wife ($10 per pic)

Realbuto and Happel , I did not see these guys coming. Dresser has these guys hitting on all cylinders.
I mean Realbuto was ranked 25 for a reason. He just DNP at Vegas and dropped from like 12-14 to 25 in the rankings. I wouldn’t call that firing on all cylinders.

Which doesn’t make sense. Paddy hasn’t been good. The combo of not qualifying 149 and Sasso at 157 I bet is better than the current combo.
and that's where bad coaching incentives come into play. paddy was the #1 overall recruit in his class. he HAS to be good, so he's going to get a lot of run that he hasn't deserved on merit alone.

Exactly my point.

Just look at Coleman's run at Nattys last year. He had a great run on the backside to AA. But he got his ass kicked yesterday by a guy from Oregon State that he beat last year.

Everything, and I mean everything, has to go right for ISU to finish top 5. Not seeing it with basically 5 dead weights.

Iowa states biggest chance to rise up the podium is for Carr to make the finals and Yonger & Johnson to place top 3.

I'm really happy for UNI... I just hate myself for jumping on the OSU -1.5 line and then finding out they didn't weigh in a 165 pounder and then remembering that when Kyle Snyder left he took every bit of mojo in the building with him.

It's still December. Lots will happen before March.

Carr is in a loaded weight class this year. He's no guarantee to even make the semis.

The biggest thing limiting ISU from a top 5 finish is bonus points. To date, none of their top guys has shown they are capable of bonus points. You need 15-20 bonus to finish top 5. Just look at Carr vs Kennedy match...they settle for regular decisions.

No Paddy and no Kharchla made a big difference. Ryan is far from being on the hot seat. He just signed an absolute monster recruiting class, literally getting the top 3 P4P guys. Not having Mendez or Bouzakis fully fill into 141, instead fighting over 133, admittedly hurts. But, they still have a ton of talent on that team that should still get them into the top 5 in March and they have a ton of super young guys coming back for quite some time(Mendez, Bouzakis, D'Emilio, Paddy, Kharchla, Hepner, Schumate, Keog and Feldman). Even Sasso, Hoffman and Decatur have another year.

If they don't get production out of that group by the time they graduate, THEN he would start to feel the heat. But, for now, he isn't going to be messed with one bit...

I just don’t see how Carr makes the finals. He will have 2 losses to OToole and finish 2nd in the conference. Highly likely he ends up the 4 seed and has OToole again in the semis.

I thought Carr had decided to go back down to 157.

Also as a sidenote, I think it is funny when guys call for coaches to be fired (I'm speaking about Brands here). Ryan won a national title and was a title threat for a few years. Look at them now.
It is so incredibly difficult to get to the top and then to stay there. To be in the mix every year like Iowa is an amazing accomplishment. Why people think the Brands can be replaced is beyond me.

Go watch the match vs Kennedy and you can see how Carr can make the finals. He is capable of winning 165, no doubt. It is no guarantee that O'Toole beats Carr twice. I would put Keegan as the favorite but Carr is one of the most talented wrestlers in the country. If he goes into NCAA's with only loses to Keegan he will get the 3 seed likely with Griffith as the 2 seed. He beat Hamiti already earlier this year.

Is there anyone from uni we would like to have in our lineup? Keckeisen for sure but that has to be it?? Happel maybe before Real transferred. Now that uni has moved out of the west gym it would be nice to get them on the schedule. There would be more hawk fans than uni fans in the mcloud center. If I'm Tom i'm trying to put 3/4K iowa fans in there.
