People like to pretend this is a new phenomenon. I would wager abuse has always been there with athletes we looked up to. It was a controlled narrative back then.

I just wish I could enjoy the entertainment for what it is. I forget these people are humans and lead human lives because I choose to take the entertainment it provides me at face value. Now I know the guy smacking quarterbacks to the ground may also be doing that to women off of it.

No, I think that's the point. It has gone on for too long because so many have turned a blind eye for decades.

The culture has definitely changed, nobody should fear for their safety. I also believe the rising tide of false accusations are worthy of punishment . This guy served 5 years and lost his chance to maximize his potential. He served an additional 5 years on probation and was a registered sex offender. The woman was only proven a liar after he videotaped a conversation after he was released.. After having this man jailed the woman got no punishment at all. We need to censor out these false accusations so the real victims get the help without people questioning its legitimacy.

I agree with you if there is definitive proof.

Sadly, most actual victims don't speak out. Most of them are too ashamed and just want to forget about it. So, it's important we still try to empower women who have the courage to share what happened. But, when women do willfully and intentionally make false accusations, they should be prosecuted, because it discourages actual victims from coming forward.

No woman should ever be afraid to report abuse. As a man I despise these cowards that chose to inflict the physical and emotional trauma. I would likely be jailed if I bore witness to it.

I had a friend who lost his position due to a accusation of his ex girlfriend. He maintained his innocence but lost his job, many friends and respect due to the accusation. He was later vindicated after the woman admitted it was all the act of a scorned woman. My friend never reclaimed his job but he did get most of his friends back. I was even questioning him without knowing the facts just because. Since that incident I have looked at all accusations with a sideways glance. Though most of them are likely true I still maintain some doubt. I wish I could just believe all of them, I was happier when I was ignorant on the subject. My friend lost a lot due to the false accusation so now I withhold my judgement.
