Talked to a guy here that is real good friends with one of the head honchos at USA wrestling and it appears they are going to have a mentorship program that builds on what they did at OTC last year because they are finding that the success of our junior and cadet guys is directly related to time spent with the older guys. High school kids will spend two weeks training in the home room of their assigned "mentor" and two weeks as one of the training partners at OTC in preparation for the Olympics. This is all incumbent on how Trials shakes out.

High school kids are Verkaleen, Spencer Lee, Happel, Yanny...these are the names that I remember that have accepted so far.

So if Ramos or Dennis win the spot, a few guys like Lee come to IC. If Nico gets the spot, they would go to PSU.

Seems like a great program but now it's not just a spot on the team on the line.

I really like the idea of this. Seems like it could definitely sway some young minds come commitment time...which is exciting yet scary at the same time.

Yea...soon as I heard Lee, my ears perked up big time. I suspect he has rolled with Nico a fair amount but I'm sure getting goes in with McD, Ramos, DD, Gilman and Clark is not going to hurt our cause. Of course, this means one of our guys has to get it done.

I don't know how much it would influence a kid like Spencer. BTW, I guess you have to be a prior or current Cadet/Junior world guy because the focus will only be freestyle. Puts a guy like Marinelli on the outside looking in.

Ramos or Dennis would certainly be favored over Nico, at least in my book. It'd be a great opportunity for Spencer to roll around with those guys.

How does this get paid with regards to amateur status? The kids would have to fund themselves, correct?

Same with a mid weight guy going with Metcalf or Streibler (who I think has a good shot at Brent this year).

Guys like Hall probably already have their reservations for Nebraska...lol.

One has to wonder what the rules are if the wrestler is already a coach on staff somewhere.

I'm guessing or if USAW has a pot of money for this type of training. Maybe current team members get paid for and others have to pay for themselves? Didn't get that deep into the conversation.

Usaw has so much money they don't know what to do with it. Sounds awesome btw! Think psu guys will follow Lee around in IC to make sure there is no violations?

You should let whoever owns/works for barbarian apparel know that they shouldn't offer to sign a recruit from IA and say that they could get him whatever he needed. If they do choose to, they shouldn't do it at MSG while other fans are around. Luckily that recruit is smarter than the guy propositioning him.
