Usually not one take a shot at the Cyclowns but.....

See you are actually arguing with yourself!!! One minute Prohm is developing Morris and Thomas, the next minute you are agreeing with a guy who says he didn't!!!

I'm really trying to just help you CyCity. Yes, I KNOW McCaffery offered the same Juco point guard. But that doesn't mean I'd start imagining he was going to be some instant starter on a great team or anything. Have you even THOUGHT about all the assumptions you are making?

Man, you're heading for a cliff. I'm just trying to warn you. "Danger!" "Caution!" You had a nice road there for awhile. If I were you I'd hightail it back to CF and hang out for a decade or two.

I was joking about the Thomas and Morris thing, they're both much better this year but you really can't credit that to a first year coach. He's been here since the summer, you really can't see if he's developed anyone or not yet in my opinion. I would think if Jackson committed to Iowa he would be in line to start at point guard next year. I think he's going to be pretty good, I'm sure you don't agree with that. Guess we'll find out!

It's not just ISU fans saying it. KenPom says the Big 12 is that good. ISU has 8 losses now, is in the bottom half of their own conference and KenPom has them as the 17th best team in the country.

Is this the same KenPom that was meaningless when it had Iowa as #1?

And they are a good team, they just have depth issues, and when you have 4 players going 40+ minutes last night, or 4 players averaging over 30 a game, with Monte pushing 38 or so, it's going to wear them down.

I just posted what I did for entertainment value, because you picked ISU out of the B12 with the parameters that they might finish in the bottom half. So, I did the same in the B10, with MSU, currently in the bottom half. As I said, I agree with you that the B12 is a better league, overall.

From top to bottom I agree with this because the bottom teams in the B1G are so bad. However, It's hard to compare conferences on an apples-to-apples basis when you have 10 teams in the Big XII and 14 in the B1G. You can argue who is or isn't overrated all day, but looking at the Top 10 lately there are 3 Big XII teams and 3 B1G teams there (although you have to assume West Virginia will be dropping out next week) and each conference has 2 more teams in the Top 25. To me, this comparison is the most valid of any.

Regardless, the point I'm making is this continues to be a hair-splitting argument. And I don't care what KenPom or whatever metric you want to use says right now, this debate will be taken care of come March. Given recent history, the B1G has clearly had the best showing in the tournament as of late.

Big 10 Pomeroy Rankings for the 7 Likely/Potential NCAA tournament teams (according to Jerry Palm's latest guesses)
MSU #3 (8th Place in conference) - 2 seed according to Palm
Iowa #5 (1st Place in conference) - 1 seed according to Palm
Maryland #14 (2nd Place in conference) - 3 seed according to Palm
Purdue #18 (5th Place in conference) - 4 seed according to Palm
Indiana #22 (2nd Place in conference) - 6 seed according to Palm
Wisconsin #34 (4th Place in conference) - 10 seed according to Palm and "on the bubble"
Michigan #49 (7th Place in conference) -= 9 seed according to Palm and "on the bubble"

Big 12 Pomeroy Rankings for the 7 Likely/Potential NCAA tournament teams (according to Jerry Palm's latest guesses)

Kansas #4 (1st Place in conference) - 1 seed according to Palm
Oklahoma #6 (3rd Place in conference) - 1 seed according to Palm
West Virginia #9 (2nd Place in conference) - 3 seed according to Palm
Iowa State #17 (6th Place in conference) - 4 seed according to Palm
Texas #23 (5th Place in conference) - 6 seed according to Palm
Baylor #35 (4th Place in conference) - 7 seed according to Palm
Texas Tech #41 (7th Place in conference) - 9 seed according to Palm and "on the bubble"

Anyone looking at this must conclude that there is an advantage to the Big 12 over the B1G. However, you are nothing short of delusional if you think that there is a "decided" or "marked" or "significant" difference in the groupings. The top 7 of the B1G match up very well against the top 7 of the Big 12.

You want to throw Rutgers and Minnesota into the analysis? Sure. They certainly drag down the B1G as a whole. However, I'd match-up Ohio State, Nebraska and Northwestern against Oklahoma State, Kansas State and TCU any day of the week. Heck, I'd probably throw in Penn State as well. Illinois? Only against TCU. Not OSU or KSU.

Wow. What obsession. Really.

Been scratching my head over this thread all morning. Is it about thrashing ISU because they got beat last night or winning a verbal peeing contest over who has the tougher conference?

Either way, I'm starting to see a lot of hawk fans obsessed with the clones losing. And I thought that obsession was reserved for us little brothers.

I honestly have never seen anything of this magnitude among ISU fans. I realize we're talking about basically a minority within a minority compared to the Hawkeye fan universe. But it's fascinating. The thing about it that's really bizarre is that it goes far beyond simply taking pleasure in the misfortunes of a hated rival. Some of the posters here are unbalanced on the subject and are dedicated to "proving" that ISU isn't a good team.

I refuse to root against the Cyclones in BB. I like the way they play and I like the crazy fan support. I am certainly not going to root for Baylor or Kansas to beat them. I think they have an excellent team caught in transition between coaches. It's been fun rooting for ISU and UNI the last decade while the Hawks stunk up the joint.

Nearly 600 posts just this week about ISU (in three separate threads). The only topic remotely close is something about Iowa's girl's basketball team.

If you want obsession go look at Cry-Clown fanatic. Or must that be ignored as usual for isu grads?

There's like a 10,000 post thread on Iowa recruiting on CF.

If you go to Cyclown Fanatic you will see obsession over Iowa all year long. All football, basketball and recruiting seasons. Oh geez, I think I even saw Clown fans on that site talk crap about Iowa women's basketball last year when they went to the sweet 16.

Iowa fans such as myself are just laughing at you clowns. When a fan base like yours believes they're elite and talks like they've been somewhere because they won the big 12 tournament,we Iowa fans just like to point out the facts to make you realize how dumb you clowns sound.

The real question here is why do clowns come to a Hawkeye message board to tell us how good they are? Again, to bad the NCAA tournament isn't played at Hilton Coliseum or clowns would have a chance.

Careful, the Clones are getting pissed off. I mean, just think - a broken foot took away a sure championship trophy two years ago, and then last year's team flopped in the first round, and now this year's team is competing for a 6 seed at best? I'd be pissed off too if the best basketball period we had over three seasons got us nothing but a sweet 16 appearance.
Well then I guess you'll just have to be PO'd since one sweet 16 appearance in the last three years is one more than Iowa has had.

I don't go there, but I don't doubt that what you say is correct. I was talking more about the tone of the posts here. No question there's a tremendous amount of anti-Hawk stuff on Cyclone boards. Lots of celebrating yesterday's loss at PSU, no doubt. But I'm not seeing people arguing that Iowa isn't a good team.
