Uthoff - getting no respect

Great Bulletin Board Material to motivate Uthoff to dominate. Puts a big bullseye on ISU...to have 3 top 100 players....better win every game!!!

I think Uthoff got slighted quite a bit by being left off this list. He is a very talented basketball player. His only issue, in my opinion, is that he is built like rake. There are times, especially in the Big Ten, where some more weight and strength would help him out, especially when he is at the four in a slower tempo game.

He's added about 20lbs. to his playing weight from last year. He's just over 220lbs. right now

Pretty nice rake these days. :)

The one that gets me is Jack Layman. He and Uthoff were third team All Big Ten, one in the Coaches Poll, the other in the Media Poll. They are similar players but I think it's fair to say Uthoff is just a bit better. So, CBS says Layman is the 49th best College player and Uthoff doesn't make the list?

Barring injury, this one will solve itself as the season goes on.

He needs to develop an "F U' attitude that White did. He's got all the skills, just needs the attitude to go along with them.

Agree 100%. White really had an edge during last years Big Ten play.

Like FU, I'm the bully. I'm gonna dunk and score all over you guys(opposition.) We are going to win and I'm gonna make that happen kind of attitude. I hope Uthoff can get there mentally and drop 20-25 a night. He has it in him with his skill set for sure.

He is "the guy" this year.

There is no "I" in team, but there is in WIN so give me the damn ball.

He has already hit a game winner up at Minnesota. He can be the guy for sure.

Don't agree with them having trimble over yogi. Yogi outplayed trimble badly when they went head to head and yogi made the coaches first team last year when trimble didn't.

Yeah, Layman to me is a puss. He's so soft as a player. Uthoff played much more physical. I didn't see Layman do anything in the big games I watched. Jarrod was a clutch performer and is going to shine as the go to guy where Layman is just a complimentary player.

Kyle Wiltjer Preseason Player of the Year??? Great shooter, but that is about it. Wiltjer is an awful defensive player, because he has no quickness.

He ran circles around Iowa last year (mostly Aaron White) and I don't recall Wiltjer missing a shot.

EDIT - looked up the box score - he was 10/12 and missed 2 three pointers. That game sucked, Gonzaga killed Iowa.

Wiltjer is an absolute stud. Uthoff should have been on that list somewhere though.

Go watch the game, especially when the Zags are on defense. On offense, Wiltjer is a deadly shooter, and with his height, that makes him very hard to stop. The rest of his game is mediocre at best.

I remember I don't like arguing with you because you think James Harden is not a flopper and that Josh Smith is a superstar (clearly only watch Houston and no other NBA teams)...but who is your choice for player of the year then? I'm not saying Wiltjer is a shoo-in, and I've only seen him play a few times (again, I only watch NBA/Iowa with some B1G & Kentucky mixed in) but you got to give us another name if you're this adamant Wiltjer is so average.

I agree that Wiltjer is a terrible defender. He still may win POY because Gonzaga will be beating up terrible teams in conference and his numbers will be inflated. I'd go with Marcus Paige as a player of the year.

Give him a break Fivecardstud14, he probably only watches the Rockets and the Hawkeyes so he assumes it's normal to flop like James Harden and Aaron White.

some candidates for player of year could be kris dunn, ben simmons, paige, yogi, buddy hield, ron baker and wiltjer.

I think you have me confused with some other poster. Harden is a great player, but like many NBA "superstars", he does a lot of acting to get calls. Harden takes advantage of the way the NBA makes calls, as well as any player in the league. Do you think Harden is not one of the best players in the league?

Josh Smith has superstar physical ability, but makes almost as many dumb plays as great plays. When he is on a roll, he can carry a team. The Rockets like their young kids, so they didn't make much of an effort to resign Smith.

I am not sure who will be player of the year. It is much tougher than it used to be, because most of the superstars don't play more than a year or two. I am not saying the Wiltjer is not a very valuable player, but should a great shooter who plays on one end of the court be POY?

Harden should have been the MVP last year. He is without question a top 5 player in the NBA. And his defense improved greatly last year.

I could have you confused with another poster, I just remember Houston being in the name. Maybe ButterMyPancakes knows who it is because it's usually us two arguing/mocking the people who never watch the NBA, yet make their cliches about the league.

No doubt Harden is a top five player, he's been 1st team all NBA the past two years. Harden carried the Rockets when they had a hurt Howard, Motiejūnas, Beverly, and Jones. He is fun to watch with his step backs and passing, but is not fun to watch when he drives to the rim. I can't stand the holding the arms out, same as I don't like when Bryant does the quick shot to get two free throws. You can say he's just taking what the defense gives him or say they don't need to reach in but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's aggravating to watch time after time after time.

As for the MVP to the other guy, it depends on if you classify it as MVP or MOP. Curry was the #1 option on the best team. Harden was single handily carrying Houston game after game while playing a bunch of minutes. Davis was the best player. James left Miami, and they missed the playoffs, while Cleveland goes to the finals. I think James is clearly the most VALUABLE player, year in and year out, he should have 6 or 7 MVPs (F U Derrick Rose). I thought Davis/Curry/Harden were the most outstanding last year, and it should've gone to Davis but having Curry or Harden win it would've been just fine.

Lastly, Devyn Marble will be getting more PT this year and I highly recommend getting NBA league pass as it's worth every penny.

I agree the kid is very skilled on the offensive end, but his defense is HORRIBLE. He was getting smoked by Iowa and actually picked up 3 fouls if I remember right? He can't move his feet and is very very slow footed.

Great offensive player, but in order to be preseason POY you need to have the "Full Package." Both offense and defense.

marble was really impressive in his last game. he has improved a TON since he graduated at iowa. he made sam dekker look bad. dekker was very underwhelming for a guy picked 18.

Woah, woah, Dougie McBuckets disagrees.

Is your idiocy limited to basketball, or do you spew your nonsense on other boards as well?
Hardens defense improved a ton last year, and there are not five better players in the NBA than Harden. The National Basketball Players Assosiation voted Harden as MVP. The Rockets at best last year barely make the playoffs without Harden. The Warriors were as deep as any team in the NBA last year. All Harden did last year was average 27 points, 7 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He got to the line ten times a game and shot almost fourty percent from three and almost 50 percent from the field. There is no way there are five better players in the NBA than Harden. Not to mention, the Rockets were a two seed and made the Western Conference Finals with tons of injuries. You Have to worry about a lot of players on the Warriors, all every team did was focus on Harden and teams still could not stop him.

A majority of your posts add absolutely nothing of value and are strictly attacking other posters.

how are you not banned for this kind of crap?

1) Pretty much just this site/board.
2) When people post stupid stuff they deserve to get called out on it. No participation trophies here.
3) What rule did I break? Or are you just sensitive?

Wow....Uthoff getting no respect from CBSSportsline. He's talented enough, so he'll just have to prove it this year.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...nd-one-college-basketball-players-for-2015-16

Iowa St on the other hand.....gets three guys on their list.

8 - Niang
25 - Morris
59 - McKay
I definitely think Uthoff is better than McKay, Monte Morris is awfully good but a much different player. Whether or not Uthoff is better than Niang he will get a chance to prove is a few months.

I watched both play enough last year that I think that's one they got right. I think Yogi is a bit over rated considering the hype surrounding him as a freshman. I also thought Trimble was one of the best players in the B1G last year and will probably be the POY this year. In my opinion Melo is quite a bit better than Yogi.

We will see. Preseason rankings are usually different than postseason rankings. That being said, trimble was not voted first team all big ten by the coaches while yogi was.
