Uthoff had chances to be picked last night but turned them down

I don't know for sure, but maybe so that instead of going to a team that doesn't need him right away and is dead set on stashing him overseas, he can sign with a team that does need him in free agency and try to make the roster that way?

That's what I figured, I just didn't know if something specific was reported.

He is definitely better off not being drafted and locked in to a team. After the first round it really does not help getting drafted. No Freedom of movement. Plus you cannot pursue other options and find a better fit.

I do think that he makes a roster. Barring injury he'll have a good long career. He has the tools. Just needs a little sharpening and about 15 pounds.

Uthoff can pick amongst of a few likely opportunities.

In comparison to Nader, he was one of 6 draft picks. The odds of him being on the Celtics NBA roster is extremely slim and he's already agreed to being stashed in the D-League.

While I agree that behind drafted in the 45-60 range doesn't help much, and may be a negative, Uthoff's chances of being on an nba roster opening day are not good.

Uthoff is like a "European" in his game and that should make him wanted. Except he isn't a young European..

This is dumb. It's better to have a team want you than to not be drafted. Worst case scenario, you're cut in training camp and then you have the same freedom as any undrafted player. Being drafted guarantees you a prime role on a summer league team and training camp invite.

No guaranteed money in free agency. At least 2nd Rd. Is something like 500k. I'd say it's a split 50/50 on the better decision.

If that's the case why didn't White do it last year?

I have a feeling this is his agent selling his client. Telling suitors that my client is worth more as a FA because he could have been drafted. No way he turned down multiple teams.

Better off picking your team in free agency especially if he's established a rapport with some teams but they didn't want to use a pick on him. There's no guarantees in the second round.

Does anyone else find it unusual that NCAA President Mark Emmert is tweeting about a conversation he had with Jarrod Uthoff's agent? What, is he a sports reporter now?

Doesn't he have more important things to do ...... like shredding that huge stack of reports pertaining to violations at SEC schools? ..... or consulting with experts on how to selectively screw certain student-athletes who have petitioned for a medical redshirt and approve others without it looking like it is was totally arbitrary and capricious? Idiot.

Nader from IA state got drafted because he agreed to spend the whole year in the D league. (draftexpress.com reported this.)

Do you have a link to White's D-league stats because I think that is BS.

White agreed to draft and stash and go overseas, Nader chose the D League. Both got drafted because they signed off on the "draft and stash" deal. Uthoff apparently didn't want to do that

That's not such a bad thing. 32 D-League players got called up and signed to NBA contracts this past season. Also, I would argue that the competition in the D-League is superior to almost all International Leagues. The pay is paltry in comparison but you are more likely to get an NBA contract if you are playing for a franchise team.

The post you quoted did not mention Overseas leagues. You stated that White did the "same thing" or in other words played in the D-league as the post you quoted says. I say Bull. The post you quoted says nothing about "draft and stash". Provide his D-league stats or get out of here with your lies. I am tired of your act.

Some of you guys are way too serious/sensitive on here. I'm sorry I didn't make it clearer by what I meant

You were ripping on Aaron White and got caught in a lie. Not being sensitive but I will stick up for a Hawkeye.

I have a feeling that Iowa's performance in the last 2 months resulted in this situation. Which is a shame.

I'd love to see Uthoff in a Lakers jersey.

How so? They had a pretty good year I thought.

Maybe this will turn out better for Uthoff?

Maybe his agent knows what he is doing.

But I am inclined to doubt it.

If he had a deal lined up instead where is it?

That is what i mentioned yesterday with the Heat-- but they signed their 2 non-drafted guys immediately after the draft.

I would rather be drafted by someone who wants me unless I have a better plan in place.

When it comes to FA's, they are always trying to find the best fit to make a roster. Certainly possible that Uthoff held out but he worked out for 17 teams and not one of them though he was good enough to make their team.

Drafted in 2nd round is better than not being drafted but both are long shots at getting a contract. I don't completely buy that JU turned down offers to be drafted but if they were contingent on being stashed away it makes more sense.

And it's never as simple as not being good enough to make their team. The Celtics don't think Nader is good enough to make their team but still drafted him.
