Just noticed they are only making 24% of their 3s on the season. Might be able to mix it up with some zone defense at times tonight?

If we can slow down that Mike Miles guy and not let him do what to us what the guard from Clemson did, we’ll win, imo

Lappas thought TCU might be willing to run with Iowa. I hope we can push the tempo and we still have our legs. These Grinders are not good for my heart. I bet we shoot better than last night.

That’s a low bar 🙂

Rebraca is going to have his hands full with Lampkin too. Another Big O sighting incoming

Fran played 9 players last night; Josh only played 3 minutes, though. I wonder if we will have a Dix sighting tonight, just for a shooting spark.

I hope we shoot less air balls and I agree with you; hopefully we have our legs tonight.

Minutes last night
36 Filip
35 Kris
31 PMac
23 Sandfort
22 Ulis
21 Perkins
17 Connor
12 Bowen
3 Ogundele

I think the physical play by Clemson really bothered our shooters. I feel like we will adjust to this over time. I was super excited to see Bowen knock down a three. I think he played his best game as a Hawkeye last night so far in his young career.

While our man defense is usually mediocre at best, our zone defense is usually awful. Would prefer they only use it as an occasional change up at most.

It was probably just me but I barely recognized the Iowa team last night. They didn't seem to be running the usual offense we run and the game was so helter skelter, if they had been wearing different jerseys, I would have sworn I was watching a different team. Hard to explain. Maybe too much turkey.

TCU's guards are a lot more athletic than ours. This is the sort of team that can out-athlete us.

We're gonna struggle to put points up tonight. I hope we play a slower half-court game or it could get ugly.

I disagree.

Iowa needs to get out in transition as much as possible and score off said transition early before TCU can get their half-court defense set up.

I’m with you on this - perkins, bowen and ulis can run, defend and hold their own with most backcourts around the country IMHO - nothing against TCU’s guards but doubt they seriously out-athleticize (not sure if that’s proper English but wtf) our guys. And Connor makes up his shortcomings with savvy, grit, cojones and improved shooting…

Good call - unfortunately for Hawks. You nailed it.

Iowa’s guards weren’t the issue tonight. Lol.

It was our forwards’ inability to score, get a rebound, or contest on drivers. Ulis was fantastic, Perkins was good, and Bowen was good offensively, but will need to get stronger to match up well with D1 guys defensively. Rebraca contested nothing, Sandfort/PMac/Kris couldn’t shoot and Kris/Rebraca couldn’t make a bunny to save their lives, got killed on the boards, and we turned the ball over way too much across the board

Neither Bowen or Ulis started and it turned out they both should have.

I agree both played pretty well as did Perkins. Murray was a shell of himself. PMAC and CMAC were 0-8 combined. PMAC got zero rebounds. Sandfort didn't play well but 2/5 and 5 rebounds is not awful---He just can't be the 2Guard. .. Rebraca plays hard but undersized and not much of scorer.

That's the tale of the tape. When our best players don't step up, we don't win. Kris is a very, very good player. He's not Keegan. That's okay. The other big time players (Pat, Sandfort, Perkins) all can't be off at the same time.

This won't be a bad loss as TCU will be ranked next week. They started at #15 for a reason.

Need to rebound and get 2 of the next 3 then get 1 of 2 in conference play.
