He likes Iowa BUT, sees the depth chart. Iowa would be a team he'd have to make, while others he could start will little issue.
Agree totally. Right away he is a 3rd down and radar defensive end. Specials teams freak. If he puts on 15-20 lbs he's our best defensive end.I watched him play at USD. In my opinion, AVG would be able to compete for a spot on the Iowa depth chart immediately. I wouldn't say that he would jump either of the current starters but he has unique skills - he is very quick and ridiculously fast for his size. To me, AVG is a hybrid DE/LB type player that Parker could move around on defense depending upon the situation so he has added value over other DE players.

I've never heard coaches, players, or commentators use Radar when referring to Iowa's defense, just raider. Are you sure the Iowa media didn't take the word radar and change it to raider themselves?

I've heard Ferentz call it both, say he doesn't know what it's called and doesn't care.I've never heard coaches, players, or commentators use Radar when referring to Iowa's defense, just raider.
Maybe this will end this meaningless dribble and banter.......
"www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/video-sessions-part-1-20140930 The GazetteSep 30, 2014 - The Gazette | Video 1 - Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker said Iowa ... at the University of Iowa football complex on Friday, March 2, 2012, in Iowa City. ... starts with the “Raider”formation, the defensive scheme Iowa uses ......"
Of course you can choose to be incorrect. My only concern about our use of the raider package is that I would like to see more pressure on the quarterback out of it.If Coach Fran decides to call his zone defense next year "Zoan", would we be wrong for calling it what everyone else calls it, or could we call it either. The football term for the front seven to all be standing and is called "radar". It was called it in the 70's, 80's and today. Just like the "Zone" defense in basketball. I think we all know if we hear "Radar" or "Raider" what it is. I personally think Mr. Jules Yakapovich would be rolling in his grave if they called his defense something different. I will choose to continue to call it "Radar", because that's what it is.
Then you aren't talking about Iowa's defense setIf Coach Fran decides to call his zone defense next year "Zoan", would we be wrong for calling it what everyone else calls it, or could we call it either. No, pretty sure I am, unless you can tell me it isn't a "radar defense" or how it is different? Then you aren't talking about Iowa's defense set
