If Venezuela can declare martial law and close its border with Columbia, how is it that the USA cannot seem to build a fence along our southern border and keep illegal aliens from crossing into the USA to have "anchor babies?" It seems like this country is going down the toilet. We just keep working, and the illegal aliens keep taking our jobs and leaving their anchor babies in here for the US citizens to support. Why are we not taking our tax dollars and using them to fix the broken Social Security system to feed the elderly and the people who are hungry and poor? It makes no sense to give all of this money to people who hate our guts and want to kill Americans and destroy America. We should take care of legal American citizens first and if we have any excess money left over after we can take care of them and rebuild our country, then we can give to the countries which really need help.

The boarders can be closed. When it's done it will be to keep you in, not keep them out.

What jobs are illegals taking? You mean the minimum wage farm hand jobs that Americans won't do?

You'd probably bitch about high produce prices if didn't happen

When John McCain was promising to pay people $50 an hour to do those farm hand jobs, my spouse and I were going to sign up to do them. Hell, for $50 an hour, I would be glad to do those jobs, and we are legal American citizens. And raised on farms, so we know what the jobs would entail. So I take exception to your saying Americans won't do them.

That's just a liberal talking point rant, illegals are working everywhere.

Do you feel the same about companies offshoring and ousourcing high paying jobs to foreign entities, who will do it cheaper?

Correct.

My doctor is an illegal, as is my financial adviser. Lots of illegals working as engineers and computer programmers too. So are two of the three anchors on the local TV news (henCe the term "anchor babies"). The last airline pilot I had? Illegal. And almost all of my kids' teachers.

They just take ALL the good jobs!

Americans will do any job there is. . . It's all a matter of price. Americans will do those jobs if you PAY them legit wages.

I'm not totally a "kick all the illegals out" guy but this line of "Americans won't do that job" is bull. . . It's that Americans won't do those jobs at ultra cheap wages that is the issue.

You're correct some even take writing gigs which force the hacks out of the profession. Not to worry Torb the world needs ditch diggers.

How about jobs Americans won't do them for less than $50 per hour, and undocumenteds will do them for minimum wage or less. Better?

This is an interesting OP in its way: a story about closing the border in 5 municipalities, or perhaps a county, in South America becomes a rant about a 3,000 mile fence, anchor babies, social security, and foreign aid.

Its xenophobia driven, of course, but represents more---the "more" is exactly the sentiment upon which Donald Trump's popularity traffics. At its core, not policy driven at all, rather starts with frustration and anger (Everything sucks, everyone in power is so stupid!).

But it has another level beyond old fashion xenophobia, note the rant specifically references helping the poor and elderly. The "more" (per Frank Lutz and Matthew Dowd, the core of his appeal) is an ego driven appeal to greatness. And seems to have other facets, with the loud and proud PC backlash element.

Interesting to observe: The USA is great, but is f'ed because politicians are so damn stupid. Trump will make America great again, cause billions. Stupid politicians with their PC ways driven by fat Rosie and bleeding Megyn and that pussy McCain are the problem, we need the Donald! And we can again be Merica!

LOL, I should have gotten to the Too much Trump thread for more confirmation of the nature of the Donald's appeal.

The only thing that worries me about Venezuela closing it's borders is that the good baseball players might have difficulty getting out. Luckily the Cubs already have Gleyber Torres in South Bend.

With a country like ours you need to put a fence to keep them out, with communism you need a fence to keep them in. It tells you a lot about the two forms of government .

LOL. It's not about xenophobia. It's about neither party giving a d*mn about illegal immigration. The Dems want the votes, the GOP (Chamber of Commerce) want the cheap labor. Either we are a sovereign country, or we aren't. Having open borders violates are laws and it isn't good for the poor. The people most hurt by illegals taking jobs and driving down wages are the low income, low skilled workers. If you don't give a d*mn about those workers then go ahead and cheer the open border policy we have in this country.
