In hind sight, you don't. I have bought tickets from scalpers before and never had a problem. But those tickets weren't nearly as much as these tickets are going to be.

With tickets being this high, I can only imagine that it would bring out more scammers. Sell a couple fake tickets at $300 a piece, make a quick $1000 and bolt.

You can probably protect yourself more by buying them from scalpers right near or outside the stadium. I would be skeptical of buying it from people who are trying to sell them away from the stadium (more than >5min walking distance).

Also, take a seating chart with you. It does two things, lets you know where you are actually sitting instead of relying on their word, and shows them you are at least wary of being scammed.

I do like the picture idea too.

All the picture will do for you is remind you of the guy who has your cash.
He will be gone like the wind and the LAPD won't conduct a manhunt like
in The Fugitive.

It's a pure gamble - I did it and lost on Big Ten Champ tix - didn't get in but
ran into people at the box office who had the exact same Sec,row, seat as mine.
Learned the hard way so hopefully you don't have to.

I really wanna know if anyone actually tried to get a scalper walk to the gate with them. Seems like pretty stupid advice

Explain what happened? There were people behind us that said they had the exact same ticket, but they both got in.

Sounds crazy but we are probably going to have 3 tickets to sell on gameday for something over face. Just circumstances with buying too many and getting more from the university than we thought. Some lucky Hawkeye will probably get 3 from me at game time for face. No shit! There is a method behind this - the broker guarantees the tickets we bought but not until a day or 2 before kick.

I had the scalper walk me to the gate of the Big 10 championship game last Saturday.
I gave him the money on the street and he gave me the ticket, then we walked to the entrance side by side. If the ticket didn't scan, he would have given me the money back on the spot.
Ticket scanned, shook his hand, and that was it.

I other words, the broker guarantees to give your money back if he can't get them at a reasonable price for him?
.pretty risky on your part. There have been many "brokers" that made promises and couldn't fulfill. Sure, quite a few promised to make it right by refunding your money while some went under and had no money to pay back. While the victim "you" ends up with no tickets on game day.

I did at a Cubs game once and he refused to go. We were trying to buy 4 tickets. I then said okay sell me a pair and we would try to go in. The other two would remain with the scalper. I said once we get in we will call our friends. He refused this too so we figured something was up.

I did this for the 2009 game at Ohio State. Guy was selling me student ticket that states an ID is required for entry. We kept going back and forth on how I didn't want to buy it because I wasn't an OSU student. I asked him to come with me to the gate to make sure I got in. He agreed but left as soon as I got in line. It ended up working though. Watched the entire game a section above the OSU band
