Yep, overall a good win. Horrible first half, becoming a trend. But NIU isn't a bad team, so to eventually put it to them is pretty good, I'll take it.
Some found plenty to complain about. From recruiting talent to coaching.

Exactly what I thought too. I don't get all of the people that are upset now. If you've been watching 20 years of Ferentz, the Hawks usually stink it up the first game. After that second half, I actually came away feeling better about this team than any season opener in the recent past.
I admit that I did a lot of cussing during the 1st half!
It reminded me of the opener against IL St a few years ago. Everyone was nervous about the opponent, and our D came out and dominated the game, largely our DLine, just like yesterday. That season happpened to be a great one.
The first series had some bad drops right in and out of the receivers hands. I think if they catch those we have a completely different half. I think the outcome was as good as we can hope for considering Iowa was missing 4 starters on the line. Getting them back will be night and day for the units.
I hope Brandon Smith comes around. He had a handful of targets and did nothing with them. He's big enough that he can fight for those, too. I also hope this was a wake up game for Amani Jones. He turned it around in the 2nd half.

If you’re not cussing through that first half you are not a true Hawkeye fan. If you run to these boards crying about how poor our coaching, recruiting, talent, play calling is before the 1st quarter is over you also are not much of a fan.
If Fant catches that ball, things open up and Iowa starts running the ball effectively sooner. And once this DL has a lead and can pin their ears back, they're really good.

Well damit! Amani Jones and I are going to work our asses off to get better! You can't write us off after the first game, can you? I was feeling the jitters that come with Game 1, and didn't show what I was capable of!
After this next week of practice, I promise I will lose my sh*t when the Hawks don't get a first down in the opening series against the Clones. I'm talking red-faced meltdown! But, I also promise I WON"T complain about it on HR!
