Volleyball 2025

I was at UNI yesterday and was able to watch the volleyball team take on UNi/Drake/North Dakota and St Thomas in what they call spring scrimmages. My 1st time to see the 5 new players and the team this year. I came away very impressed. The Hawks had a nice crowd there to. Iowa destroyed North Dakota and St Thomas. The games were closer vs UNI and Drake but Iowa out played them as well. Iowa has a star in Chard’e Vanzandt. A high flyer. I also liked the power of Gia McGrew, a freshmen who graduated early. The defense was so much improved overalll and the setter Ammeraal looked recovered from her injury in the fall and she was amazing to watch. I see major improvements.

Just looked at the roster, I see Garcia transferred to Auburn. I was afraid we couldn't keep her

I stand corrected, she's not on the Auburn roster. But the newest pic on her Instagram page shows her wrapped in an Auburn flag, so I am puzzled.

Final VB scrimmage is the 19th at Carver. This team has added some exciting players. Looking forward to watching.

VB won all 3 games in their final scrimmage.
They beat Bradley and West Illinois badly.
The big win came against sweet 16 team Northern Iowa. This is the best Iowa team I’ve seen here in many years. Great defense and athleticism. They play with a bunch of energy and had the crowd excited. Most excitement I’ve seen in a while. Really enjoy watching the coaches and players and how they communicate so well. 1st class job VB

Outside hitter Gia McGrew, along with middle hitters Makena Rumple and Peyton Young, make up the 2025 signing class.

They sound like a really strong class. McGrew was really impressive. Also there is rumor a foreign player coming in this summer as well.

It is confirmed. Iowa VB got a big time player from Ukraine. I bet she will be happy to come state side. This is just what they needed. A strong attacker on the outside.
The team has really added great talent.

Wow. Thats interesting. I found video on her. She is a big time hitter. Looks really good! One of Iowa’s best signees ever.
