Admitted newbie here, but I saw a stat where Minnesota as beaten Iowa in volleyball 49 straight times. What's the story with Iowa Volleyball - why so little success? Is there potential there?

The border states are all light years ahead of where Iowa is. The type of player they need to make a jump in the standings can go to almost every other team in the conference & have more success. They're looking at 15+ losses per year in the B1G with the rosters they are putting out. Top in-state talent has no interest in being involved with the program. Fan support is barely there (which isn't surprising given how often they lose). I'm not sure what type of commitment the University is willing to make for a sport that has had no history of success. If they wanted to make a splash, they'd have a volleyball only facility, make someone like DBK the first million dollar per year coach, and have 500k for NIL 😂

IMHO, Barta should have and could have found a way to keep Shymansky while admitting and apologizing for violations. He's the only coach to have made any progress in the last 30 years; although I note that Barnes has gotten us 4 B10 wins this season (up from zero), which has gotten us a tie for 15th place, with the USC/UCLA trip coming up.

I actually like this seasons team; our blocking and libero play has improved, and some of the new transfers/freshmen have looked good. But the conference is just so tough...

I’ve followed the program for a couple decades. Bond did a nice job but the ncaa sanctions and bad rep made the program hit rock bottom. This years team was nearly all new players. They showed good improvement even with no experience. I like how hard they play and seem well coached. With some more talented added, I see them moving from 10 wins to 15 and then really building something special. It took guts for Coach Barnes to take this on and I hope they let him complete the rebuild.
