Wagner

He is stacking up pretty well to Ed Morrow who chose Nebraska over Iowa. Similar production per minute and Wagner is producing more efficiently and on a better team.

I'm still not convinced Miles is a good coach. He managed to take a mediocre Nebraska team to the tournament a couple years ago, and since then his teams have been pretty disappointing despite solid recruiting.
Agree, at the time alot of people were down about not getting Morrow but it was pretty obvious both would come in as athletic garbage/hustle guys initially. Morrow never showed anything outside of 5 ft when I watched his high school games.

Those type of guys are great but you can only really play one at a time or you would kill your offensive spacing. Which ever guy develops a 15+ ft shot will end up being the better player but they're very similar currently. From what I've seen Wagner is the better passer and has a better feel for the game.

I don't know that I would write off Miles and Nebraska just yet. I think he has assembled some nice talent and wouldn't be at all surprised to see them move up in the BT standings next year.

Maybe but shields is a big piece. That guy is relentless getting to the rim and drawing fouls to get them in the bonus. That's a huge loss.

They've added some better shooters this year which makes them bearable to watch. They used to run out 5 terrible shooters in Petteway, Shields, Parker, Webster, etc.

I'd bet the house that Wags starts at "4" next season, game 1. Dom, Wags, PJ, Fleming and Christian Williams.
I like that 5 except I'd swap Isiah Moss in for Flemming and Cook in for Wagner.

1. Williams
2. Moss
3. Jok
4. Uhl
5. Cook

With super subs Baer, Jones, Wagner, Hutton and Flemming. Kreiner will play spot minutes. Pemsl may red shirt to allow more time to recover from his multiple injuries

and there aint nothing wrong with Wagner if he doesn't develop a mid-range shot ( I have my doubts) and is the second coming of Reggie Evans. Every team needs a guy like that.
If he develops a mid-range shot - look OUT!

Yep, he will make huge strides in the off season. There are virtually no bench minutes at guard. Brady gets a few and CW have picked up a few. So yes, he will beat out Brady next season I think. Moss is a poor shooter and I don't think he's getting a look at the starting spot when the 80 minutes a game played by AC and Mikey this season open up next season.

A mid-range shot may be the key for Wagner. It certainly was for Basabe. It will be for Cook's aspirations going forward as well.

Watching Wagner show us more and more of his game has been great. I think the Brandon Dawson comparison works better than the Morrow one although he still has work to do to reach that level. He is undersized but his first and second jumps are faster than most other players and yes, he looks very comfortable out there. Fran found another gem.

I like the future too, but next year will be tough.

The Iowa women just lost three extremely productive seniors and this year has been uneven at best. The men will lose four senior starters that have learned and grown together, finally reaching toward a magical season. Look at what the seniors' leadership brings to the floor. That is something that cannot be replaced by talent alone. Who will step up and lead the team. I am excited about next year, but it might take a little while to gel.

I wasn't sure about Wagner early in the season, thought he was too short to play inside. But his game is really intriguing. He's got the quickest first step that I can remember. The only player I can think to compare him to us Roy Marble. One step and he is to the basket, and he jumps like a kangaroo. Perhaps best of all, great IQ and great teammate. Reminds me of Jared Cole in that he is willing to do the dirty work and always knows where to be.
Agree. He explodes to the hoop. I immediately thought of Roy on one of his moves to the basket the other night. Needs to work on his mid-range game and he could be special.

Like good running backs...Wagner seems to "run downhill" towards the basket. This is difficult to stop, and dangerous to get in the way of.

Strength, relative quickness, hops make up for height inside. He's got a great foundation, all he needs is help honing those skills.

Moss is a poor shooter???????

I didn't realize he was a poor shooter either, then add to that CW is apparently a 2 in the future and Moss will be playing the 1???

Sleeping Dog you sure you aren't still sleeping?

I saw Moss play a few times when he was in high school. He has a sweet stroke. Very pure shooter. The future is very bright.

Sleeping dog is set on Uhl playing the 5 spot as well. He has some interesting opinions.

Be honest though, when we've gone small, Uhl has done a great job. He's put on muscle and has really improved his shot, his defense and his feel for the game. Since real centers are a rarity anymore, I think its OK to steal some time in the middle until Wagner/Cook/Kreiner is ready to step up.

His interior defense has been awful when he gets stuck one on one. He's a great offensive rebounder but when he's had a big body on him defensively he still isn't physical enough IMO. Some matchups will allow us to get away with it but if there is a team with a competent interior scorer, I'm much more comfortable with Wagner's physicality.

No argument there.

Comparing anyone to Evans is far fetched.

Evans did one thing at an insanely elite level and did everything else below average to poor.

Wagner is a much more well rounded player.

James Winters is a better comparison .

Honestly, I love having him on the team but I think he's crazy for choosing bball over football at all.
Not really. Tony Gonzales did it that way. There's less chance of getting injured on the gridiron before you get to the NFL. I'm sure there's other TE's who've done it that way although I can't remember them them offhand.

He may be choosing life over death the way the news is about football injuries these days. Most likely is going to have a healthier body.
