WBB to play "Crossover at Kinnick" on October 15th!

If they can run xc races in November in skin tight clothing I don’t see why it shouldn’t be ok. If I’m playing I’d much rather it be 55 instead of 75-80 but that’s just me. Ideally 60s of course 😉
Playing football yes 55 is a great temp. Playing basketball, not so much. You usually want it a little warmer probably around the 65-70 degree mark. You don’t want to be chilly/cold while playing bball.

You’ve got to think / hope that all the coverage of this event + the partnership with UIHC will look great to incoming recruits. What a way to sell them on being part of something special.

Yes. My point was other sports play outside in far worse. Obviously you don’t want it raining or too cold outside tho.

John Cook said the biggest issue playing volleyball outdoors was the wind tossing sets around too much.

I see the forecast calls for 15 mph winds in Johnson County on Sunday afternoon. That might cause the most problems, especially from deep.

The women will have to recall those cold Iowa evenings (Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, Nebraska) growing up when they had to account for and adjust to the Midwestern wind.

I think the thing to remember is its an exhibition. The score doesn't matter. This is about the spectacle, and obviously no one getting injured......

It's a great idea! Looking forward to it!

Probably see a few airballs from 3, but who cares?

Stay healthy ladies!

Speaking of staying healthy: I don't know the slope in Kinnick Stadium (from the center to the sidelines) and they clearly accounted for this potential issue, but a simple google search told me this:

Slopes on athletic fields are very minimal. The highest point is usually about 10-18 inches above the lowest point on the field, which translates to about a 1.0-1.9% slope. Slopes are important to move water to sideline areas where it can be collected and drained away....

A couple of decades ago Iowa installed pumps under the field to drain the water so it could be flat. Is that still true today?

good question; i have no idea; i added a pic in my post (it looks like the basketball court is centered perfectly in the end zone)

i am sure there won't be any issues with the court being flat.....

"centered perfectly in the end zone."

The court is not in the endzone at all.

I feel stupid asking this but do you think they will be having some type of skin cover on their arms and legs while playing?

If the wind is blowing in the right direction and briskly enough, any chance we'll see Caitlin launch at least once from the opposition's 3pt line?

😆

Field hockey and soccer teams (soccer team is playing in IC today) seem to manage in shorts/skirts in these temps. Some wear long sleeves.

need to update the holds scoring records line in her bio:
Holds three women’s basketball arena points records — Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena (44), Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena (39) and Michigan’s Crisler Center (46).

Pretty sure the kinnick record will stand for a while...
