We could really use a Great portal addition today

It’ll happen. People need to take a deep breath, be patient and understand that, given a little time, McCollum will bring in tough, hard-nosed players who actually care about doing the dirty work and little things it takes to win basketball games.

Freeman, Dix and Sandfort are talented players. McCollum wanted the latter two back. But that doesn’t mean he can’t go out and find some players who will play some really good basketball for the Hawkeyes. There’s still a lot of time left and whole bunch of very skilled players available.

Also, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that we’re not hearing about. For example, there was no mention of Iowa recruiting Austin Rapp until he released a Top 5 with the Hawkeyes in it.

I guarantee there are offers being made and visits being set up. I think when it’s all said and done, McCollum will have assembled a very nice squad.

We're all hoping. There's a lot of work yet to be done.

McCollum got the guy I was most interested in retaining.

Freeman - He quit on the team and was out the door 2+ months ago.
Harding - His PT was going to be cut short with a 39 minute/game player in Stirtz
Dix - Nice player, would have preferred he stayed at Iowa, but Creighton paid him, so, there you go.
Sandfort - Can't stop a guy whose life-long dream was to play basketball at Nebraska.
Traore - Better options coming from Drake, and he probably sensed that.
Johnson - A complete unknown (like a rolling stone).

The way I look at it is we can take that $3.5m for those 3 players and get 6 players who are more than capable of being a B1G player. That's almost $600k each... You can get some darn good players for kind of coin!

If one or two of them are having a bad game, throw the other 4 out on the court!

I'm guess a large chunk of the budget was in limbo waiting on Dix.

They had to wait on him because of how good he was. Iowa isn't going to be competing with Kansas for a player probably ever again.

Now that the situation is clear Ben can move forward with offers to players who will require money, ( the Drake guys probably didnt get much besides Stirtz)

Just read Banks had offers from ISU and Xavier before going to Drake.

It seems like people are not clear on the fact that the only D2 guy coming to Iowa is Stirtz. I just listened to an interview with Tom Kakert and he clearly didn’t seem to understand this.

Manyawu and Combs came from mountain west. Howard was going to the summit league and Banks had b12 and big east offers.

It's not a stretch for these guys to be in the big10.

Not at all. Some of our fans might want to wake up. I’ve been saying this from day 1. He’s going to start all his Drake guys and coach the Hell out of them. He needs a shooting guard plus depth, but his starting lineup will be at least 3 Drake guys.

I seems like a good chunk of the fans think all these players came from D2, it was bizarre to hear Kakert on kxno mumbling on about a D2 to big10 narrative that isn't based in reality.

He needs a big.

It doesn't matter who he ends up with. It is already and improvement over Fran's weak assed teams. I'll take 3 Drake players with heart and discipline over any of Fran's players over the last five years. Go Hawks!

Uhh the past 5 years would include Garza, Keegan Murray, Bohannon, Baer, Nunge, Wieskamp, and CMAC…so maybe not any of Fran’s players IMO.

Sure those teams didn’t match expectations, but perhaps it was coaching and not the players that failed to achieve their full potential.

In Ben I trust.
We need a few p4 4* transfers. Getting mid-majors to fill rolls is fine, but if we’re only getting mid-majors, then our team remains only a mid-major, looking at 13+ losses again. If this is the best we can do, just give the b-ball NIL to football so at least fball can take a step forward.

Prossibly...

Let's not forget there are over 1200 players in the portal that have yet to decide on a school including 5 Hawkeyes.

I would be curious to know how many of last year's roster BMC actually wanted. Having only mentioned 3 names....?

I would have thought Traore, Tadjo & Isaiah. But not being mentioned in the initial presser and multiple interviews, I guess not...?

The mid major stuff is totally irrelevant in 2025 . A player is a player.

There's plenty of guys going MM for a year with the intention of increasing their value and transferring up vs sitting on the bench at a p4.

What Iowa needs is some size and some shooting.

Where those players come from is not a factor in how well they can play.

A couple of shooters who can defend, and a big who can hit the 3 would be perfect. Cam didn't attempt a 3pt shot last year. As in Zero

Shooting guard (3 pt ability) and a couple bigs are the two “needs” IMO. The rest of the roster is best available however that shakes out
I also would like to see a PG/combo guard, like the kid who is coming for a visit. Not a great idea to not have a back up plan if something causes Stirtz to miss some time.

I don't care if they can shoot the 3 or not, just as long as they can defend without fouling, can make free throws and is good at rebounding and while coach is at it he wight as well get a second center that does the same thing. Make it happen!
