Most teams look to have 3 scorers.
This year we have 1.
Heaven help us next year.

He's struggled pretty badly but it's understandable with the limited playing time he's had prior to this.I think Kris Murry could be that 2nd scorer.
After the hip surgeries, JBo simply isn't quick enough to get open. Even with screens, defenders can recover and deny him the ball or get into position to contest. You're right: the ONLY reason for JBo to come back this year was to be the major 3-point threat, and in most games against decent competition, he's not even getting shots! What the . . . !
And that's mostly on Fran. I said early in the season that, for one example, guys like Steve Alford ALWAYS got shots, and ALWAYS scored big because Bobby Knight--whatever you may think of him--set screens, double screens, and triple screens, and ran plays to make sure Alford got his shots every damn game against every team, no matter who they were. But not Fran. Either JBo forces shots, or he doesn't shoot. Just like last night.
But look what happened at the end when the game was decided and JBo did start forcing shots. He hit about half of them. Iowa has to have JBo shoot at least 10 threes a game, and they have to rebound. If they could do those two things, they could still salvage the season. But this BS of JBo never getting a shot and of this team standing around and refusing to rebound ain't gonna get it done. And both issues land squarely on the head coach, which is really disgusting.
I'd be interested to see the averages in Big Ten play. I think they would be quite a bit different. Keegan has maintained his average in Big Ten play but not sure any of the others have. After last night against Wisconsin, here are the top 5
scoring averages for the Hawkeyes this season:
Keegan..........24.7 points
Patrick...........11.0 points
Bohannon.....10.9 points
Kris...................9.6 points
Perkins............7.6 points
We need someone who can average 15-18 points per
game. Otherwise we will lack a varied offense attack.
What's remarkable is that we have one of the highest scoring offenses in the land. After last night against Wisconsin, here are the top 5

Yeah I think Fran needs to let JoeT be more aggressive and encourage him to be a scorer.Kris Murray, for one. Additionally, we need to Toussaint to take the next step as a scorer. I’m tired of seeing him be Mr. Efficient where he’s shooting 50% from 2, 45% from 3 and 90% from the line. Hasn’t attempted more than 8 shots in a game this year (shot 8 times against Maryland, just last game). What that tells me is that he isn’t being aggressive enough. The same could really be said for Ulis, who has a nice midrange game and finishes decently at the rim.
Then again, Joe gets pulled for the game every time he makes a mistake so I can’t really fault him for it
JBo is finding out being the 2nd option as was planned is a little tougher with our roster. He had Cook and Jok as a freshman. Soph year they were awful when Cook was number and Garza was a freshman. but then he benefited greatly with Garza and Cook year after but also attention last year Weiskamp garnered after he sat out his year with medical red shirt. JBo also benefited from CJ, when healthy, was another shooter other teams had to account for. On this team after Murray there is no one else and he's realizing it is a lot more difficult to get clean shots vs good teams when he doesn't have that other talent around him. Plus Jbo isn't as effective like past shooters/SG like Jok, Gatens or CJ coming off ball screens with the catch and shoot. You're right: the ONLY reason for JBo to come back this year was to be the major 3-point threat, and in most games against decent competition, he's not even getting shots! I understand that ball movement is a huge component of Fran’s offense. At the same time, if your point guard is a top 3 or 4 scorer on the team, then he occasionally needs to try to make something happen. It’s actually pretty ridiculous that Toussaint is averaging fewer than 6 points per game with his mid-range game and quicknessYeah I think Fran needs to let JoeT be more aggressive and encourage him to be a scorer.
I look at some of the shots PMac takes that end up being bad misses and sadly I think Joe would get yanked from the game for “playing out of control” if he did the same thing. It shouldn’t be like that.
I think Ulis and Perkins should be encouraged to be scorers too. Ulis had a really nice mid range shot last game and has surprised me with his offensive abilities multiple times but he just doesn’t look to score often, which is what can be said for both Perkins and Joe as well.
I think Kris Murry could be that 2nd scorer.
This. This should be the Murray and Murray show like Nevada did with Martin and Martin.
I'm sure could point to multiple guys and instances since we rebounded so poorly last night. However big spot 9 point game a minute left in the half and this sequence was just awful effort by Patrick on the boards. In the video go to the 10:10 to 10:30 mark. Doesn't block his smaller guy out on missed ft who gets a hand on it pokes it free and PMac and Jbo knock it out of bounds both going for it. Then on the next possession in zone swing out where he rotates over guy shoots a 3 from the corner. He stops few feet short of the 3 pt line moves in a few steps and watches ball come off the rim flat footed couple feet outside the lane and a Wisconsin guy comes in from opposite side who was outside the 3pt line when shot was released and caught it on the ground and had an easy uncontested put back. No reason what so ever to be standing there not attacking the glass better. Very least should've been in position where put back was contested. We need him with his size to be more aggressive on the boards. Guys like Uthoff and White have shown you can still be a good rebounder with that frame.I think Fran has to shore up the rebounding. That means play Mulvey/Josh in post significant minutes.
PMAC and JBO are scorers, but they give up as many points on defensive end/lack of ability to track
loose balls because they are relatively slow for their positions. PMAC shot selection is often poor and he tends
to not want to mix it up inside the paint and risk an elbow to face...i.e. opposite of a Luka Garza or even CMAC.
I would move towards youth and hope they have upside by end of the season. That means JBO/CMAC would see most of their minutes in closing games Iowa has a lead.
Yes Iowa needs more 3pt shooting/scoring. The only guy I see that has upside in that area is Sandfort. Obvoiusly tough for a Freshman to excel, but you never know unless he gets PT.
I could see both Ulis and JoeT playing together...I know people hate it, but JBO really only can score when he gets a few minutes at PG and has ball in his hands---even then he gets open only if teams lose track of him.
