We Still Haven't Played Anyone With Better Recruits Than Us

Similarly, it is foolish to factor in the recruiting class rankings of the freshmen class or even the sophomores, as Iowa and most other teams has two deeps made up primarily of jrs and seniors.

Pretty sure Iowa has 16 or 17 freshman and sophmores in the most recent 2 deeps.

I've noticed a lot of threads lately bashing hawk fans who are disappointed in the way recruiting has been going in recent years and claiming that our 7-0 record "proves" that stars don't matter. They also say our record proves that Ferentz is brilliant at player development. The facts do not back this up.

If anything, our 7-0 record proves that stars DO matter (as does having a cupcake schedule). Thus far, all 7 of our wins have come against teams who had worse recruiting classes than ours for guys who are curently juniors and seniors. So perhaps having the best players and best facilities and highest paid coaches are why we've beat everyone we have and we can ditch the whole "shucks, we're just Iowa" excuses? Perhaps we need not be so insecure?

Here are the 2011 class (Canzeri's class) and 2012 class (Beathard's class) rankings:

#30, #43 Iowa
#40, #57 Wisconsin
#42, #65 Illinois
#51, #88 Iowa State
#59, #47 Pitt
#88, #61 Northwestern
#103, #100 North Texas
#130, #130 Illinois State

Moral of the story...it's nice not having Mich, Mich State, Penn State, and OSU on the schedule...and it's even nicer to win the recruiting battles against our peers because stars do matter.

I haven't seen 1 thread saying that 7-0 proves stars don't matter.

Since you say there are several, could you link me to 4 or 5 of them?

Sounds like some one is a little butt hurt his team isn't doing so well and the Hawks are 7-0. Thanks for stopping by troll.

No kidding! It must be agonizing to wake up every day knowing that Iowa is undefeated and ranked 12th......Maryland next!!

Just looked. There are 18.

14 on Wisky, 14 on Illini, 13 on Pitt, 12 on Northwestern, 10 on ISU... It's funny how not including freshman and sophomores makes his point but when the reality is that 4 of those 5 have over 25% of their 2-deeps littered with freshman, RS freshman, and sophomores. Iowalaw is pointing out a biased and flawed statistics for his own manipulation of the facts.

I'm pretty sure no one on earth has said the rankings system is a "perfect science." Such an ignorant, extremist thing to say. The facts are the facts, though. The teams with higher ranked recruiting classes win more games than the teams with the lower ranked recruiting classes, on average, each and every year. The teams on Iowa's schedule thus far have done very poorly in recruiting, and as a result, they lacked much fire power. None of them had great QBs or RBs, and it showed. As a result, we have not been out classed, athletically, this season, like we were in the bowl game against Tennessee.

Stars do matter, and it's foolish to say otherwise. Similarly, it is foolish to factor in the recruiting class rankings of the freshmen class or even the sophomores, as Iowa and most other teams has two deeps made up primarily of jrs and seniors.
Tell that to Texas and USC.....I bet they wish stars mattered.....also Iowa might rank in the 50's in recruiting but are top 10 in developing NFL players, how in the hell do you explain that? I would like to see them rerank classes after they graduate b/c I bet Iowa moves up significantly every year.....not sure I can 100% buy into the stars matter BS nor can I buy into the fact that stars do not matter...the truth lies somewhere in the middle....some teams are better at evaluating talent and/or developing it (like Iowa) and others are good at just loading and reloading (OSU, Bama) while other teams are loaded almost every year and have less than stellar results (Texas, USC, and Michigan (last 10 years)) to name a few

Actually, somebody did. It was posted on here like back in March. I'll see if I can find it again.

You still haven't proved that stars matter. You haven't proved anything and then you back track in a later post.
Classic! If you are an atty. I hope to shout you don't go into court with this kind of proof and logic. You'd get a client a lethal injection for a speeding charge.

Personally, i think we can beat anybody. Who should we fear--beyond reasonable respect for a worthy opponent? No one. No one in the B1G east is above us. And the B1G overall seems to be as good as the SEC was once hyped to be--or better.
I agree, even with 2* losers like the outlaw Josey Jewell, Matt VandeBerg, Akrum Wadley, & Ben Niemann. These boys can beat anybody, ANYBODY.
