We (U.S.) Just Got Played by Russia

An attack on Hawaii doesn't even trigger Article 5.
You know that, right?

Article 6 makes clear that article 5 is only triggered in specific places, and putting your troops into a non-member country doesn't leave them covered.

Either you're really ignorant, or just not an honest person. The former is curable.

The six questions pertain specifically to Ukraine, and are not addressed by the NATO treaty.
Whenever one of you maggots accuses me of being ignorant, I know you've given up on the conversation.

Personal attacks are very telling, patriot.

Ok, Patriot.

Let’s try them one at a time.

Tell me what language in the NATO treaty addresses this question:

  1. What do you view as a Europe-backed security guarantee or assurance that would serve as a sufficient deterrent to Russia while also ensuring this conflict ends with an enduring peace settlement?

There really is nothing like a freshly shorn scrotum. It's quite breathtaking actually. I suggest you try it.

The hard part of this is to be moral enough to want peace, realistic enough to know that further war isn’t going to get you peace, and cynical enough to accept that the bad guy will have won in some part to get peace.

Diplomatic norms are being restored. Embassy staffing levels increased to pre-Biden numbers. Russia has a seat at the table again.

Biden crushed Russia's economy, and tiny is ready to give it all back.
BS. Everyone has an opinion. If Trump can stop the war, and the absurd unaccountable spending along with it, that will be the best benefit to the US.

Or if the D’s want to have a fundraiser to pay for it to continue, I’m ok with that too😀

Joe and Hunter can throw in some money. As can France and Germany.

As long as Zelenski doesn't believe one word from the OLD LIAR IN CHIEF going into the talks.

Elections are curtailed by the declaration of martial law, which came about because they were invaded.

On the subject of Ukrainians voting, I think a few people have forgotten it was Zelensky that broached this topic:

August 1, 2024
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy took another concrete step towards launching ceasefire talks with Russia by saying he might call for a referendum on the issue of making territorial concessions to Russia ahead of planned negotiations this autumn.
Zelensky told Le Monde that accepting territorial losses would be a very difficult decision and suggested he might put it to a referendum. He also admitted that giving up land to bring an end to the war would constitute a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Giving up Ukrainian territories is 'a very, very difficult' question,” Zelenskiy told the French newspaper.
Zelenskiy’s comments on a referendum follow on from a similar call for a referendum by Kyiv Vitaly Klitschko, who said in a recent interview at the end of July that Zelenskiy “risks political suicide” if he tries to give away Ukrainian territory to Russia as part of a deal to end the fighting.
"The next few months will be very difficult for Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Should he continue the war with new deaths and destruction, or consider a territorial compromise with Putin?" Klitschko said during an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. "How can we explain to the country that we need to give up pieces of our territory that cost the lives of thousands of our fighting heroes? Whatever move he makes, our president risks political suicide."
"Zelenskiy will probably need to resort to a referendum. I don't think he can reach such painful and important agreements on his own without popular legitimisation," Klitschko added.
Commentators warn that Zelenskiy's biggest political problem is the threat of protests or insurrection by fractions on the far-right or nationalists, who will not accept defeat or territorial concessions. A referendum would give him some political cover should he make this very unpopular decision.
Agree with your points.

It's alarming that people are thinking about not giving Putin the land he's taken is the only successful end.

Nobody seems to have any suggestions on how to get that land back with the assumption the US isn't going to do it by force. Where will Ukraine be if we stop throwing good money after bad?

I don't have any issue with Trump talking to Putin. Trump himself has said they aren't friends, but there can be no end without the sides talking. How hard is that to understand?

This board is tiresome with the team politics. Dems have become the public warmongers, while the GOP just sits back while their benefactors in the MIC make profits. If it's truly important to Europe, they will step up. Oh wait.... Germany and others need Russian natural gas. It appears a lot of people don't see how the puzzle fits together.

The goal here seems to be tagging posters like me with some talking point to win.

If they talk to Putin they need to talk to Zelenskyy which they won’t. Ukraine doesn’t have a seat at the table. It’s Czechoslovakia in 1938.

Not “warmongers” Finance, but some of us lived thru Viet Nam and remember the BS the Republican Right put America through as we discussed getting out of Viet Nam…starting with JFK. Now the same thing is happening.. except we had Ukraines killing Russians for us! That is not a bad thing with Putin pulling the strings. Now, we have a coward, traitor President selling an invaded people down the river… a lot like Chamberlain and Czechoslovakia and Hitler abd “Peace in Europe”..
I can’t help but think this gonna bite America in the ass in years down the line. Putin wants sanctions lifted and Trump (tge master negotiator) is gonna give him exactly what he wants! Trump is a traitor who deserves to be in prison.
Trump has no soul… and no feeling for America and its Constitution other than a transitionary one. His lapdog from South Africa and he are playing American politicians like the fools they are.

It's alarming that you think Trump talking to Putin about ending the war and the future of Ukraine without Ukraine in the room is a good thing.

This is code for: hold elections while we insert a pro-Putin stooge. Want to make a wager that this is how this plays out?
Shame you don't support democracy, comrade. Not surprising given the recent history of the democrat party though unfortunately
