Well that’s 6-7 out of the ten. Who knows the others?
Fleshman a fullride? Surprising if he is! I think the best he has done at state has been 7th. Had a good summer tho and Morningstar was one of his coaches in Oklahoma on National team.

And that’s too bad. I’d rather have more proven studs come in with full ride and second/third tier pay own way if they want to come out.9.9 scholarships for wrestling between the whole team (30-40 dudes). About the only guy I could see getting a full scholarship would be a Spencer caliber dude.

The way I look at it is if the coach does not think you are worth any scholarship money, then you should probably believe him. That means you probably are not as good as the guy he has in the room or the other guys he is recruiting at your weight. Of course they are not always right, but they usually have a pretty good idea where you stand. That could possibly make for an empty room. My kid isn’t walking on at Iowa to get piss pounded the entire practice for nothing.

Another thing to consider is, there are a lot of ways these schools can get creative. They start with basing everything off your parents income, after that you may be qualified for government assistance (grants), then if you are a good student you can get a partial academic scholarship, + a partial athletic scholarship. They can get many kids close to a full ride status just by that kid doing what they need to do outside of the mat, and using a little creativity. The average students who come from a family that has a combined 150+ a year income are the ones it really makes the 9.9 hard for!Define 2nd or 3rd tier.
I think a lot of guys we think of as "room guys" pay their own way or are tabbed "preferred walk on" meaning if they come here and jump levels and end up a starter, they can get money down the road. They get the chance to shoot their shot and are rewarded for it if it works out. Otherwise, the schollie $$$ works out the way we probably think it does.
My tiers are:
1st: Multistate/Prep/Super 32 /Ironman Champs plus Fargo titles or AAs, Wins against ranked opponents. UWW world teams etc. #1 in their weight class coming out, top ten p4p etc
2nd: Multistate champs plus Super 32, Fargo or UWW AAs top 4 or 5 in their weight class
3rd: All others
So one can be a 3 or 4 time Montana state champ but if no success on a national level, then they drop down into to tier 3. Likewise, a guy like Kemerer "only" won one state title (2,2,2,1) but it was in the toughest state plus he had sustained success on the national level.
They probably have some type of rubric for this when they sit down and talk $$$ with parents but I am guessing even some of the kids we think are worth a full ride don't get the full 100%.
A tier 1 recruit for Iowa and a Tier 1 recruit for Rider or Kent State are going to be quite different. I also seriously doubt that many kids get full athletic rides. Spenser Lee - maybe but I would guess Kemmerer, Young, Warner, Cass, Ayala etc are not on full athletic rides.Define 2nd or 3rd tier.

My son wished he was good enough to do just that. That could possibly make for an empty room. My kid isn’t walking on at Iowa to get piss pounded the entire practice for nothing.
A lot of kids do this for little to nothing. They love the sport and want to be a Hawkeye.
