Wes had a huge strength disadvantage against Brock when they first wrestled but over time he seemed to get a lot larger till eventually he was able to handle him a bit. Is getting as big as possible part of heavy weight training or is it not very important? Does Iowa focus more on endurance? Do wrestlers feel to much weight training leads to lousy wrestling?
If it was me at coach l'd have Stoll as jacked as possible.

Hopefully Rutt helps out with that. Stoll is more of a Butterbean still. Stoll needs to get on the lifting program Blaize Cable from UNI is on. That dude is jacked

Strength does a lot more for you than simply weight, especially if it's not good weight.

Blaize has been jacked since 7th grade.

I just happened to be Blaize's 7th grade football coach. He was built a little better than the average 13 year old boy. Blaize wrestled 71 & 89 in high school & was expected to be an 84 or 97 pounder in college. Since then he has put on about 40 pounds of pure muscle. I have lifted with him recently & it is safe to say that he has worked hard to become significantly more jacked!

He was strong but he didn't truly add size until the past couple of years. As noted, wrestled mostly at 171 and 189 in HS. He wasn't a HWT prospect.

As for the OP, getting as jacked as possible shouldn't be the goal for wrestling. He needs to keep adding strength while keeping/increasing flexibility. And by adding strength it needs to be in the core not just in the biceps.

One thing I will say about the UNI athletic programs; they know their strength and conditioning. They have a really good program there for that with some really good trainers and instructors. Even sources outside of the program like the Crossfit Kilo gym helps them in some form, and they're one of the best "boxes" in the country.

I believe he wrestled 198 as a freshman and the cut was a pain.

Ha, if you're calling Stoll a butterbean what's the name for a guy like yourself? How jacked were you your Freshman year of college when the season started? Or, did you even make it through 4 years of wrestling in high school?

Speaking for all former butterball HWT's, I think its a little harsh to call a brother "butterball" he is from Minny and a hearty young lad, whats he supposed to do..... He will firm up and anyway the Man can wrestle and will be taking care of business.
