Why Lithuania? Anybody know?

His argument is that the US and EU must greatly step up support to Ukraine, without delay, or not only will Russia take more of Ukraine but may move on Lithuania next.
Just blame NATO for provoking Russia to attack Lithuania. Don’t change the playbook if it’s working.

Because Lithuania and all of its neighboring states were essentially won from Charles/Sweden after the great northern war under Peter the great, and Putin has been trying to restore the USSR for decades?
 
Putin must want Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania back. They gained their freedom relatively recently and always prepare to defend against Russia coming back.

The question was "why Lithuania?"

My liberal friends who argue that Putin wants to reconstitute the USSR should stop confounding the USSR with imperial Russia. It's a weak argument to begin with, and that just makes it sound uninformed.

Geography and History with a strong mix of Delusion. Pretty easy.

A strategic consideration would be if you took Lithuania, you'd reconnect the WW2 trophy of Kaliningrad (formerly Königsberg), assuming also Russia incorporates Belarus.
