Hawks got a good olé fashion beating tonight. Swanigan an Hass too much inside. PU also shot lights out on the perimeter.

And really not surprising. Hawks being erratic and inconsistent is what we will see plenty of.
As bad as they looked and were beaten tonight they could look very different against scUM in a few days.

Well what do you expect. We we're playing the Conference Favorite at their place and this was Iowa's first "TRUE ROAD TEST" of the season. It played out like I expected it to. Iowa was very timid and played hesitant on both ends. PU shot lights out (should when your wide open). It was a learning experience for several of the young guys.

We will not see a team that loaded again until they come to Iowa city and even then that game could get UGLY. They are bad match-up for us (just like we were for them last year).

I expected a game plan and some effort not to get blown out by 30 points ...

FIRST TRUE ROAD TEST...BALONEY

These kids are in the Big Ten... Act like men and prepare yourself ... The court is the same everytime you play and the baskets are the same height and the players still play 5 on 5 last time I checked..

Road test my a....

So you expect them to win at East Lansing or the Kohl center every year? Huh okay.

Their gameplan was to press PU and try to get them to "speed up" and turn it over. It didn't work. They tried playing zone, it didn't work. They tried playing man to man, it didn't work. All their defenses didn't work vs Purdue. Nothing you can do when you are out matched by a better team.

Do you have any other defenses you want to try out? Should we of tried a 1-3-1 even though we don't practice it? Or should Fran just went full court man to man and try it out?

Sorry but sometimes the better team shows up and tonight Purdue did. They were head and shoulders better than us at every position. They made a team effort to shut down Jok and force other players to step up. Unfortunately none of the other guys showed up.

Pete didn't start to play with any aggression until he got embarrassed. Baer played hard and Ellingson had another solid game. Otherwise, let's see if the Hawks come out with more fire on Sunday.

I was disappointed in Moss. I've seen a lot of flashes recently and would have liked to see some assertiveness.

I'm impressed by Ellingson. Clearly doing everything he can to break the Oglesby comparisons. I'd like to see him get a little quicker laterally, but he's clearly improved from when he got on campus.

Cook and Pemsl will be GREAT once they've been around for a few years. The B1G is notorious for refs giving known quantity players the benefit (akin to getting superstar treatment in the NBA).

We have one upperclassman that contributes and a roster full of kids. This won't be the last beatdown of the season. They will learn even from the losses.

I think that Purdue was vastly better (Wed. Night) than when Iowa played Virginia or ND or anyone else this year. Even though Iowa was schooled, I think the Boilers would have beaten most of the Top 20 the way they played. We are what we are, and Iowa's kids may never get to the level that Purdue played at, but a lot was learned, and I hope most of it was by Fran. Painter seems like a super coach and is certainly enthusiastic and positive. In the radio pre-game talk with Dolph, Painter talked first about Jok and then about Pemsl, and then Cook and Bohannon; those are the guys he was going to shut down. He really said he likes Baer, who is harder to defend, actually, because he's a lot less predictable.

too many wide open 3pt shots for Purdue. That said, sometimes it is not your night.

Iowa embarrassed MSU a couple times last year and Purdue at our place. Last year's team ended up a pile of dog poo. So if this year's team improves at end of year, that is step in right direction vs early season success and dog poo..
