He was apparently convicted using extra-judicial rules that require less evidence and date back to the British occupation. It appears that even though his sentence was almost served and he was dying of cancer, the Israelis refused to grant him an early release to die with his family. Always more to the story.

It's not at all hard to believe. It's equally easy to believe Israel is lying. That's the problem. Whether Daqqah is what they claim or not, NO prisoner should be denied necessary medical treatment. There's no doubt that happened in this case. And a prisoner months from release who is dying of cancer not being allowed to be with his family on his deathbed is unconscionable.
