What all is gained by winning Senior Nationals?

As many of you are aware, not a big fan of Freestyle, but love to see any Hawks that do well and choose to chase the International hardware so to speak.

So with all the hoopla surrounding Daniel Dennis and his winning the Senior Nationals today, what exactly did he and the others that won today win other than a Senior Nationals Title? Not trying to diminish the accomplishment, just trying to understand the ramifications of it all.

The 1st 7 placers of the Senior Nationals all qualify for the Olympic Trials from what I understand. I presume there are others already qualified outside of the World Team Members, and perhaps many of the guys that competed today were already qualified?. Is there a set number of qualifiers allowed? Are there more qualifiers to come?

Then they have to get thru the guantlet to face Metcalf and Ramos and the like who are World Team Members?

Does Dan Dennis get a better seed out of the deal? Just trying to understand what this win actually does for a guy relative to his chances of making the Olympic team, other than the confidence boost, winning a tough in-country tournament, etc.

Is this also his first run at the lower weight? The weight he was at previously was not an Olympic weight correct?

He qualifies to the trials.
He will get a better seed.
He puts fear in the heart of his opponents.

Dennis wrestled at this weight at NYAC a month or so ago. He looked really good other than 1 match against Graff who got a takendown and trap arm gut and tech him fast. Graff is tough but no better than Scott or Hazwinkel.

Everything Don said.
As far as running through the gauntlet to get to World Team members, just wanted to point out that all non medal winning World Team members will have to run the gauntlet as well. Only JB, Green and Snyder given EZpass to finals.

I don't think Green gets one either because it was not the weight he wrestled at or it was not an Olympic weight.

Green automatically qualified for the trials but does not get a pass to the finals because that wasn't the weight he competed at or yes it might be because it's a non Olympic weight he was at one problem is that this is also one of the weights that's not even qualified to go yet what Kyle Dake said last night was very accurate on all the non qualified weights not just his and that's that none of this matters if no one is going to rio anyway but I'm confident we'll get it qualified actually confident in who ever they send the top guys are all looking great right now

we only have, what, 74 and 97 qualified, correct?
Has there ever been a time when the US hasn't sent a full team to the Olympics?
And are the current world team members the only wrestlers at the weight who can qualify us or can anyone from the US do it?

Green hasn't even proved he can make the weight. Not to discredit his world medal because if his weight is under control he could create problems at 65 Kg, but it was at a non Olympic weight. That would be absolutly BS if he was given a pass to the finals.

I think it's BS that anyone gets a pass to the finals.
Do all countries do this or just us? Makes zero sense to me. Takes the whole fair competition part out of the trials.

Green getting a pass to the finals would be a travesty. What next...give Pico a pass to the finals since he's a jr world medalist?

Green got his bronze at a non Olympic weight, which truth be told, had nowhere near the level of talent that was at Olympic weights, including 65 kg. His first few matches Costa Rico, Slovakia and India all had him facing unranked opponents. That put him in the semi's (and repechage). After that he lost to #6 ranked Iran. Into repechage, where he beat Bulgaria, and got a bronze.

Green is very good, and certainly a possibility for winning OTT's at 65kg. But at that weight, he's really done nothing to earn an automatic finals birth. Pleeeze.... say it ain't so.

So how many weights are not qualified yet for the U.S.? I presume Metcalf and Ramos and the other World Team members that are at the Olympic weights will likely be #1 seeds, or is that still up in the air?

I forget the entire situation, but didn't Mike Zadick make it as an alternate when the U.S.A. didn't qualify the weight and he got in last minute when someone else defaulted out medically?

Green doesn't have an automatic bid to the finals. That weight will be a gauntlet for anyone to get through. We still need to get the weight qualified first. The only weights we have qualified are bc of Snyder and Jordan.

Btw green beat chamizo from Italy a couple weeks before worlds. He won it all at 65kg last year.

Some countries don't even use a qualifying system. They basically pick.

I think the biggest thing Dennis did this weekend was prove that he's worthy of the #2 seed at the trials. Ramos is a lock for the #1 seed, Dennis #2 and then Graff, Scott and Haze are all in talks for the #3-5 seeds.

It ain't so. I brain farted that one. I knew returning medalists got the EZpass but forgot Green wrestled the non Olympic weight. He'll have to grind like the rest.
