My top 5 with examples are at the top of this list and my last one is at the bottom.

Top 5
Classic Rock (Beatles, Allman Brothers, The Who)
70’s Soul (Commodores and Spinners)
Old school hip hop (Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy)
Progressive (Yes, Rush, Genesis)
Hard Rock (AC/DC and Black Sabbath and some Alternative)

Bottom- Scream Punk (I don’t know any names really, but whatever they sing in the movie Green Room would qualify…not the Ramones)

I really like all types of music depending on mood at the particular time, If I had to pick a least favorite would probably be speed metal, Just no feel or soul.

- Indie pop (or whatever MGMT is)

Whatever Sevendust is.

Bands like Nickleback, Creed, Breaking Benjamin and of course Sevendust are referred to as “Butt Rock”. Also sometimes the more accurate “Post-Grunge” where they are harder than standard alternative bands but nowhere near heavy metal. It comes from the Clear Channel stations in the 80s and 90s taglines “Coming up next….nothing but rock!” So Sevendust is Butt Rock.
