What do you do with your time when you're not obsessing about politics?

It's pretty clear this place has become a cesspool for constant political obsessions; either by the sychophant Trump blowhards or the sky is falling every other second liberals. That said, what the fvck else is going on in people's lives? What do you all do for fun? I see the colon guy is eating diarrhea inducing hotdogs and hugging cacti, alaska guy is going to bang his wife at a public park...what about others?

What do you do when you're not obsessing about politics?

Work, pray, watch cable news.

I'm trying to limit my screen time because I have a 11 hour a day cell phone habit and politics is everywhere and it's mostly toxic and I can't do much about it.

CSB.

You got me curious. Mine says I average 4h 47m per day.

Oh, and to the OP. I spend a lot of time on the side-lines for my son's soccer team, season ticket holder for San Antonio FC (soccer team), off-roading, college football in the fall, yard work (built the wife a decorative picket fence this week), and most importantly, HBOTing.

I work from home so I spend my day listening to music and avoiding doing work. This week I listened to a couple of live Billy Strings shows each day. He has been touring in Florida so I have kept up with those shows. I also have been riding my bike on a indoor smart trainer using an app called Zwift, it sort of turns the mundane cycling training into a game. I've also been putting some hours in on Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox during the day as well.

I then mix in a few walks about the neighborhood, usually take my kindle for a walk and read, almost finished with Kurt Vonnegut's Deadeye Dick.

I play in a Wednesday night bar dart league. Always fun. I follow the Wolves in the EPL and will often go out on the weekends to watch in the mornings. Baseball is back, the White Sox are already in form, looking forward for warmer weather to attend games.

Pretty much the weekly routine with the weekends mixed based on social plans.

In my free time, I tend to overcommit to the ridiculous. I’ll start by reorganizing my bookshelf by emotional damage rather than genre, then somehow end up trying to teach myself the bagpipes at 2 a.m. because I thought it would “add character.” I bake overly ambitious pastries that either belong in a patisserie or a science lab, and I pretend to be a serious plant parent even though half my plants are actually just sticks I refuse to give up on. I occasionally fall into deep YouTube rabbit holes about things like competitive stone skipping or medieval laundry methods, and I once spent an entire weekend trying to make the perfect paper airplane with blueprints and test flights included. When I need a break from the chaos, I casually hold plank for five minutes like it’s a nap, hike uphill trails for fun, and once moved an entire couch up three flights of stairs by myself, just to prove I could. Honestly, I like to think of it all as aggressively wholesome chaos—with a dash of functional superhuman energy.

Life’s a journey, not a destination!

Catholic question for you - we have a new golf pro at the club here in town, and he says he goes to church three times a day. Is that normal? I'm Lutheran so barely religious and I've never heard of such a thing.

I haven't heard of that either, even from a priest lol.

Life seems pretty crazy and overwhelming at times for me right now. I have 3 teenagers all in spring sports and one of them is a senior, so… if you saw my calendar your head might spin. Every. Single. Day I have to ask my wife who I need to take where and when. This weekend we have 3 soccer games, 1 lacrosse game, a round robin volleyball tourney, senior prom and my daughter is going to the rapids game with her soccer team Saturday night. Honestly, it has become a little exhausting. Add in all the senior stuff and I have very little time for myself right now. Not trying to complain but sheesh.

I used to be able to come to this board for some levity and entertainment. Lately it is all politics. I feel like I need a break from politics as it is giving me some anxiety.

Golf, boating, sports.

I'm hitting up three baseball stadiums this summer: Coors Field to see the Dodgers in June, Busch Stadium when they play my Braves early July then down to Truist Park late July.

It’s incredible how much Billy strings has blown up over the last 6-7 years. Probably about 6 years ago one of my buddies called and said he had some extra tickets to this music festival featuring some bluegrass dude up in Salida Colorado. 100 bucks for a campsite and Friday and saturday night tickets. Great deal so I went. Was blown away and have Been a fan ever since.

Unfortunately, his shows are crazy expensive anymore. Wife and I looked into one of his concerts last summer and the tickets were like $300 a piece.

Yeah, it's rough. Politics permeates everything in America now.

I can understand why since Trump is nuts.

Unfortunately for me, my job is kind of heavily influenced by politics. I am forced to talk about it every single day. It gets really annoying.

Anyway. Sorry for turning this thread into politics. Carry on.

Yuk. Maybe he’s showing his putter to the altar boys…
I’m Catholic BTW. We know you LutherLovers don’t like us.

Is your work pro or anti-Trump?

Same. I am not hijacking this thread, hopefully, in saying before Jan 6, 2021, I never gave politics much of my time…time for a break now. I will see the protest dates on face book. In the mean time, I will work on my physical fitness and paint landscapes….

My children are grown now but I well remember the non stop practices and games and can sympathize with you. Hubby and I spent Saturdays during school and summers every day going in different directions and meeting up at the end of the day at any restaurant not named McDonald’s.
My son is now doing the same thing with his kids and I just smile. My grandson has an 8AM game in the morning and Grandma will not be there. I will be at granddaughter’s two soccer games later on though. (She plays on two select teams)
It’s funny how many of the kids grandparents show up. Boomer grandparents!
Politics is NEVER discussed and that’s how life has always been before social media made us think that somehow we should let our lives be ruled by it.

It really is, hard to believe people are filling arenas for bluegrass music. But they've got the goods. Great picking, good vocals, harmonies and they've got the songs. I'm seeing them this summer just outside of Chicago.

I don't know how parent's did all that before cell phones.

Those 8 AM games across town and the coach wants them there an hour early suck balls. Lol.

I really am not trying to complain as it is all kind of fun for the most part. The best is when we all get together after a long day at a restaurant somewhere and rehash the day. I wouldn’t change it, just could use a break once in awhile.

And good point about the politics. Youth sports are a great reprieve from politics. There is no discussion about it at the games.

I’m jealous. Have fun. And they got the goods alright. My wife isn’t much of a bluegrass fan outside of some Grateful Dead stuff. She loves Billy.

Total side note for you. I have a 79 year old client that works a little side hustle as an usher at ball arena here in Denver for the avalanche and nuggets. I was talking to him a couple weeks ago and he is telling me about this really awesome concert he was working and all the crowd were just dancing away and having a good ol time. Only problem; was he is pretty sure he was high the whole time because of all the pot smoke but he thought maybe that made him like the band even more. It was Billy strings and now a 79 year old is a huge fan.
