non conference games are not near as important as conference games..
I'm sure they wanted to give the front 4 work on 3rd downs to get as much as they can on tape.

Jim Reid is now coaching at Boston College.. Would him not being here have any bearing on the use of that defensive package in a game?
no... Phil Parker is the one who calls the plays...

It is kind of odd it hasn't been used at least once. Although I think the dline has been getting good pressure on obviously passing downs they haven't needed it. There really wasn't a time to use it on Saturday. In the second half NDSU mostly ran the ball.
I dont know, but I am worried about the production at LB without Reid
and Coach Reid was the person up in the box advising Parker-who wanted to be down on the sideline to be with the defensive backfield players...Coach Reid was more than simply the LB coach during his time at Iowa....
Nothing against our new LB coach who is a good young guy, but can't help to replace a guy with 30+ years at major conference level with a guy with very little experience
Reid has only coached in a major conference for 8 total seasons before this season...He has HC/DC/ast time, at smaller schools + a couple years as an ast in the NFL....He was a very valuable asset to the Iowa program, though...
I have a hypothesis on this issue -- the coaches don't trust the safeties in coverage so the Raider package has been shelved.
I hope this is some sort of joke. You don't use a live game that you are at risk of losing to collect film like a practice. If you're up on Iowa State by 30, fine. But nothing you could gain from doing that is worth sacrificing the game. Blinkered coaching.
no no... they had a game plan and they stuck to it...
this was barely anything more than a preseason game... the real season starts this Saturday.
There is no such thing as a preseason game in college football. If you think a coach sticking to a pLan is more beneficial than a win your crazy. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.
I also think personnel. Josh Jackson has been in and out of camp and in and out of practice and banged up and he was the clear #3 guy last year and came in during raider packages and nickel packages. I don't think they feel completely comfortable yet relying the the true freshman Rugamba. Also think that in obvious passing downs, the dline has been getting good pressure on the QB.
My sarcasm meter is a bit wonky sometimes, so I'll just assume it should be going off here. There's no chance you can be serious with this stuff.
