What if military spending went to space exploration instead?

Ive been watching West Wing on netflx. In one episode they talked about how the military has a space budget many times the size of NASA and we use it for military space shuttles.

My father in law is a real life rocket scientist (though that's not his official title), and he's often times up in arms about NASA's funding being cut again. I often think to myself, why is it really that important to do space exploration anyway? Sure, get that we have many inventions thanks to NASA, but do we really need to know whether Pluto's a planet and what it's made of? What do we really gain from seeing up close pictures of one of Jupiter's moons?

I'm not saying cut it entirely, because we certainly need to know if an asteroid's coming and we need to send ALF to blow it up, but it does seem like something that could be significantly reduced.

Yes and our nation would be perfectly safe also .
This is hypothetical, as if, humanity grows up and we no longer need to spend so much on military.
Don't worry aflac, there are bound to be some intergalactic enemies to ensure we have armed spaceships.
