And why? Hands down for me .. the 2016 season with all the anticipation from the year before in 2015 and the nucleus of the Iowa team coming back... then the slap in the face by Ped State ... then of course the glorious bowl game performance against Florduh... that takes the cake for me but in those past 5 years did bring some monumental wins for the program aka..O$U And Meatchicken.. and many more ...

2014 and it’s not even close. Stupid loss at home to Iowa State in the lamest way possible (calling timeout as their kicker misses a walkoff fieldgoal only to let them kick again), a blown 14 point lead in a loss to Maryland, absolutely getting run off the field at Minnesota, a blown 17 point lead in a loss to Nebraska, and showing up completely unprepared to the bowl game. Ferentz fatigue was at its peak by then. I’m mad just thinking about that season now. Thanks a lot! ;)

Idk about disappointing but the saddest season to look back on for me was last season (2017) this obviously wasn’t our worst season but it is probably the saddest given we had 4 one Score losses... should have beaten penn State, northwestern.... the worst part are the wins we had like Ohio state and then come back and lose to purdue in probably Iowa’s worst game in the last few years... so if we got penn State northwestern and penn state we would have been 10-2... Michigan State was also a rly close game and I’m thinking if we beat penn State we would have came back a week later we would’ve won.... but honestly if we beat penn State I don’t think we could have beaten Ohio State tbh

Losing the Big Ten championship game to MSU in the final seconds, coming THIS close to making the first-ever four-team playoffs for the national title. Along with everything else already mentioned in this thread....

I agree about 2014, and with apologies to Rudock fans, but if the Purdue game proved anything, it proved we were starting the wrong QB.

2014, no doubt, was a very frustrating and disappointing season, and tops my list. 2015 was disappointing towards the end when we narrowly lost the B10 CCG, then getting completely dismantled by Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Last year was frustrating considering our highs were very high and our lows were very low as well. In recent memory, I don't recall being more frustrated than when I was watching Iowa Football during last season's Purdue, MSU & NU. Three very winnable games that ended in defeat unfortunately. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

This thread is a good reflection of the program post orange bowl. Some definite bright spots but more disapppintment. We are basically a
.500 program vs p5 teams. With who we play nonconf there should be a couple 9-4 seasons sprinkled in there instead of 5+ losses being the norm outside schedule-aided '15.

I'd say '14 or '16.... Losing to SDSU in '16 was an absolute disgrace, don't care how good they are in their division. Penn State and bowl total embarrassment, NW at home was bad too.

Last year sucked IMO because we certainly had talent, however; we lost 4 close games due to our punt and punt return team IMO....that kind of sucks to lose 4 games in the same fashion we used to win games in early 2000's. CJB being injured his entire senior year sucked too (and kittle), losing to MSU barely and then the rose bowl sucked too considering we were less than a minute away from CFP.

2015. We were so close to winning a conference championship and starting 12-0 was pretty awesome. Our “consolation prize” was the Rose Bowl and I drove straight through so I could attend my first Rose Bowl. Well, we all know the result and after a months worth of anticipation, the game was essentially over in the first 5-7 minutes. That season ended in a complete dud.

Tough to pick a year. I guess good and bad each year. Big picture. Should never lose out of conference games with our schedule. Should not lose to Northwestern on a regular basis or teams like Maryland or Purdue ever. Also, we don't close games well and we used to have special teams as a strength and now it is a weakness. Maybe the last part is my biggest disappointment along with inconsistency. How you boat race OSU but lose to teams like Purdue.

Any season with a loss to isu. When isu beats Iowa, it makes their season even if they only win one or two more games. Should Iowa beat isu every year? That would be nice, but Iowa should win 8-10 every decade.

2015. Chances are we get waxed in the semi, but we'd at least have been Big 10 champions.
I actually think our bowl game would have been different had we won....I think the loss in that fashion really put an emotional toll on that team....not to mention that MSU game was most physical championship game I have ever watched, like 6 guys played rose bowl hurt, might have still lost but not like that
