What we know after 3 games

Iowa 89 Marquette 61 on the road In Milwaukee.

The coaching: Great game plan. Had the team ready from the tip.
The Starters: Played like a well oiled machine with focus and tenacity. Much improved on the defensive boards with solid blocking out. Uthoff had a move to the hole and put it up with his opposite hand, a thing of beauty. Jok was silky smooth shooting again. Woody's defense on Fischer and some times on Ellenson was vintage Woody. THE GUARD PLAY was awesome! Marquette got Sapped and taken for a ride in a MG.
The Middle group: Uhl being able to hit some 3's playing the 4 position is such a plus. The stats won't show with only 2 boards, but Ellingson did a tremendous job blocking out and closing in for long rebounds. Jones seems to be getting tougher on the boards.
The Freshman: Another new experience with the first road trip. I do not think any of the freshman took any steps backward. Wagner was on Ellenson and did a nice job. Fleming is having so much fun. Good for Williams to get time on a road trip at point.

At certain points in the game we got a glimpse of next years team. It will be fun to watch the defense progress instead of trading baskets with the other team. The arrow is upward!

There is a lot on tape for some good teaching and a lot to like about Iowa.

Story I came away with was at the 8:17 mark of the first half. We led 28-8, Marquette had nine turnovers. And from I could tell, many of them looked gassed. Wasn't for lack of subs, they'd played nine guys by that point and we'd played eight. Sure looked to me at the start like they wanted to run...guess they got a nice run in.

The defensive effort, especially by our guards in the first ten minutes was unbelievable, set tone for game.

The Advocare tournament will be 3 games in 4 days which will be pretty grueling. Should be plenty of minutes to go around. I am looking forward to which of the new players seizes the opportunity.

This should give Fran a pretty good idea about Iowa's strengths and weaknesses. One area that has not been tested yet is offensive rebounding when shots are not dropping.
