Hoping those more in tune with recruiting can brighten my opinion but next year does not look good... Rebracca and Kris gone (hope he does, IMO WAY to soft for NBA and not good enough shooter) so we got Mulvey and Og for our inside? we'll be eaten alive. Perkins/Ulis/Bowen are ok but none can shoot good enough. As I see it, its NIT if we're lucky

Josh O might actually transfer this time unless he can convince the staff he's in good enough shape to play and stay healthy, and vice versa the staff can show their faith in giving him more minutes.

With todays college ball all depends on the portal. But Fran needs least 2 big guys. I know NIL plays a huge part but with kris gone Fran needs to try sell it to some grad transfer come here to be top guy. I just don’t see anyone on roster now he can consistently be the go to guy most nights. Perkins way to up and down. Pmac proved he’s not a top guy but only a role player.

I thought Bowen did well in his limited minutes tonight. Looking forward to seeing Nimmers next year. He really impressed me in high school. I know that's not the big ten but I'm really curious to see him play. I have to give Sandfort credit, he looked good tonight. Murry needs to work on finishing with his right hand. He's not ready for the pros but he'll probably leave.

Right now we have no scholarships available.

Kris leaving would obviously free one up.

Where things stand now:

2023-2024 Roster (13 on Scholarship; 0 scholarships available):

FRESHMEN: 4 players

6"10" C Owen Freeman

6'0" PG Brock Harding

6'7" SF Pryce Sandfort

6'8" PF Ladji Dembele

SOPHOMORES: 2 players

6'3" PG Dasonte Bowen

6'5" SG Josh Dix

JUNIORS: 2 players

6'7" F Payton Sandfort

6'11" C Riley Mulvey

SENIORS: 5 players

6'4" G Tony Perkins

6'2" G Ahron Ulis

6'8" F Kris Murray

6'9" SF Patrick McCaffery

6'11" C Josh Ogundele

4 Notable Walk on players:

SENIORS: 1 player

Dante Eldridge (assistant coach Courtney Eldridge's son)--has played 2 years (through 2022) in college, first at William Penn & then Kirkwood CC; a 5'9"combo guard; on May 5, 2022, it was announced that he would be joining the Iowa roster as a walk on.

JUNIORS: 1 player

Luc Laketa--a 2021 6'6" wing/forward; on May 13, 2021, it was announced he would be joining the roster as a preferred walk on.

SOPHOMORES: 1 players

Carter Kingsbury--a 2021 6'5", 230 lb shooting guard; on July 10, 2021, it was announced he would be joining the roster as a preferred walk on. Carter ended up redshirting the 2021-2022 season so he is now scheduled to graduate in 2026.

FRESHMEN: 1 player

Amarion Nimmers--a 2022 6'3" combo guard; on April 30, 2022, it was announced he would be joining the roster as a preferred walk on. On Nov 14, 2022, it was announced that Amarion would redshirt during the 2022-2023 season so he is now scheduled to graduate in 2027.

Josh and Mulvey need to enter the transfer portal tomorrow. And we need another experienced big and athletic guard with immediate eligibility. Ideally a big with some shot blocking and rebounding ability more than scoring. One that can manage to jump over a newspaper unlike our last few bigs who were great on offense but killed us on defense. Is there a senior year Erik Hanson or Gabe Olaseni available out there? If Bowen or Ulis leave then I’m looking for a stretch 4 also so that we don’t have to play Patrick there big minutes and have him kill us on defense.

Pull that together and we have at least a bubble team.

Next year will be like this year… and the year before … and the year before that … and ….

13 years folks. This is IT. Iowa basketball will not get better … Fran has peaked … He looks tired and so does our program. 51% conference win percentage in 13 seasons … 0 Sweet 16s… And capped with an early exit against a bad Auburn team. Again, a bad Auburn team…

Iowas never going to accomplish anything with Fran regardless of the talent level.
Amen. Franiacs will tell you ‘if
We can just get this player ….’ Or ‘just get that player…’ or ‘insert Year 14 excuses’ … then we might make the tourney … JFC this program is tired … Needs a reboot … now… and it starts with a new head coach …

The question is the next Fran team to make tthe tournament even if thy go to Chicago will you spend the mone when Fran has the stigma as one and done?

Yep.

I don't give a rats ass about Tom Davis, Alford or Lickliter.

None of that matters at all.

What matters is this isn't good enough.

I am worried that Fran is already using a scholarship on Braun. He might be a good big backup but don't see him as the guy that gets the Hawks to the Sweet 16! Fran needs to work hard and get at least one starting level big, a guard that can create/defend and an athletic sniper.

I actually have some hope that Mulvey can be a late bloomer...have to remember he's a sophmore and I seem to remember him enrolling at 17

Anyway he's shown hustle and has length....needs to mature.

Agree big Jelly doesn't look like he'll develop

Need a legit post in the portal regardless

The team finished about where I expected them to finish. I would like to see less seniors next season and more underclass players develop.

Iowa was probably the worst team in the B1G at season’s end, and inconsistent Perkins is the only B1G-level player returning. There will be zero future NBA players on the roster after a run of about 8 years with Cook, Weizy, Garza and the Murray’s, during which the team accomplished very little. The only good news is the the B1G will probably continue to suck, so there’s a slight chance they could manage a 16-16 type season, after which the fan base will be convinced about how “close” we are, and Fran just needs another 5-6 years to get us to the promised land.

If I’m a difference maker, entering the portal, why would I go to Iowa instead of a a team that has the appearance of making a run? Conference champs, deep ncaa run, etc. Iowa will get more average players.

I think Kris should come back. If he doesn't, that's the biggest hole with Philip also gone.

Bowen will displace Ulis. I think he's already shown more ability to score and be aggressive, his TO last night just shows he doesn't know his team well enough. I think Dix will be another Sandfort. Hopefully Tony becomes a consistent scorer as a senior
