When Cook comes back, will Iowa be starting 4 freshman?

I don't think it's that unusual for a 4 & 5 to both like post play. Not every team has the "stretch" 4 who can fill it up from 15 - 25 feet. I think they can make it work & work quite well - but will have to adapt on offensive sets & practice the new personnel group. Nice problem to have to work out.

Cook will come off the bench for maybe the first week to week and a half of B10 games and then will replace Ahmad. I saw a poster wanting Baer in the starting lineup, but we cant have that. He is the constant on that second unit and having him and Wagner with them will be ok. Granted Peter, Moss or JBo will have to be with them, but the lineup of Williams, Moss/JBo/Jok, Wagner, Uhl and Baer isn't that bad.

The Good news is for Hawkeye fans..........Fran's going to have a lot of options.

For the Michigan game on January 1, here's my Starters:

PG: Jordan Bo
SG; Pete Jok
Glue: Nick Baer
4: Tyler Cook
Bigg Dog: Cordell Pemsl

6th man: Isaiah Moss
7th: Dom Uhl
8th: A Wagner
9th: B Ellingson

Etc, etc GO HAWKS :)

Moss is going to stay as a starter until/if he falters badly for a few games. I liked his second half start against UNI a lot. That showed me he could regroup and contribute by getting to the hoop and defending.

Exactly. I don't see these people thinking Baer will start Big 10 after not starting for the last 5 games. Moss has shown he is a high major talent and is actually playing better starting. Baer is the energy guy off the bench.

While we all want Cook/Pemsel to succeed together it may not be critical going forward.
Garza and Nunge will give us plenty of options to mix and match skill sets. Wagner, Uhl, Kreiner and Jones can help if a match up issue exists.

At the 3 I'd like to see Baer be able to fill that slot until Weiskamp gets here in 2018. Uhl and IMO Williams and maybe even Nunge could fill minutes in the meantime..

Moss at the 2 with Brady,Conner and Mashie backing him up.

JB at the point with Williams and Conner will give us enough depth.

The growth of the 4 freshman will help offset the loss of Jok and as a team we should have a much better idea of what it takes to win and defend in the B1G. I think we can still score enough without Peter.

For what it's worth, Fran thinks Pemsl and Cook can play together. Also, it looks like Cook will start as soon as he is cleared to play.

This comes from today's press conference.

Anyone remember the 'twin towers' - Payne and Stokes. Those guys worked well together. Can't quite remember tho - Payne played farther out than Stokes didn't he???

Yes. Stokes was a true center. Payne came in as the higher rated player, but Stokes really blossomed as a sophomore and became one of Iowa's great players. Payne, while a very good player, always frustrated me because of all the bunnies he missed in his career.

Then there are the original twin towers of Waite and Special K.

As for Cook and Pemsl, I think both would like to be stretch fours/fives. The question is, can they be, now, right at this moment? If so that would be a major advantage. Next, on defense can either or both handle guarding a quicker and indeed stretchier four?

Answer. If Swannigan and Haus can do it at Purdue than dang straight Cook and Pemsl can! So we're back to the now? Are they ready?

Things simplified after Cook got hurt. There are some hurdles we hadn't overcome before his injury. I'm presuming that Fran has been at practices. I know I haven't. So I take it as qualified commentary from him that learning roles has continued as he plans to play them both.

My mind gets a bit more fuzzy the older I get but I seem to remember Payne and Stokes doing quite a bit of high, low stuff that worked well with Stokes working the baseline more effectively but they both were willing passers like I think Pemsl and Cook can be
