Where’s all this so-called top 20 NIL $??? So far, all we have is another backup qb.

Good players are landing everywhere except Iowa. We need beef on the OL and DL; receivers, TE, CB and a good RB. If we have all this NIL, we should be standing on more than just a back qb at this point.

Dammit!

I wouldn’t put much stock in the availability of nil rankings that some organizations put out there. I don’t think they are even close to being accurate.

If we do indeed have $20M in NIL (which I really question anyway), does Iowa maybe prefer to spend it on current roster players to keep the core and proven contributors intact. Makes for less budget to go get new players but instead focus on paying for performance AND pursuing portal guys that are willing to put in the work to prove their value for next year.

Maybe wishful thinking - but interesting to think about how a program like Iowa should approach it. Strategically speaking, Taking care of your own first can keep a core intact and set the culture in a much different way than spending big on newcomers.

Yes. And we all know Kirk wants "the right fit" guys over the flash. And that's probably the right way to do it. But it's still frustrating to see loser programs pick up 4 and 5 star guys while Iowa does its usual, boring thing. You would think they could capitalize on all the guys they have put in the NFL, but apparently not.

doesn't the nil money get spread out to the many other athletic programs at the university?

When no-bowl programs like Wisconsin and Kentucky are kicking your ass in recruiting and the transfer portal. They’re kicking your ass in NIL.

It amazes me how many of you expect top quality skills position players. Brian, and by extension, ol' Kirk, dug our offense into a giant hole. One that is going to take years, if not a whole decade, to fully get out of. No player who wants to show off their skills wants to come to Iowa given our reputation. Lester did everything in his power to cut our stats in half (which he actually ended up doing with most of them). But it's going to take years of building to get us back up to a reputation of competency.

Ultimately we're going to have to take guys that most teams don't want and moneyball our way back out of this hole. Lester just needs time to find the guys he wants and start working with them. Until then, Iowa's offense will continue to get table scraps.

Lester is trying.
That's about all we can hope for until Capt Fossil is gone.

I do not think Kaleb Johnson is table scraps.

I agree with a lot of what you have said. Pay to keep the top 44 and some more. Instead of a big time strategic approach be tactical with the portal at filling some key positions of need every year
