This board is depressing as hell... we have multiple all conference players and the highest seed since forever ago. Have some faith people! We can win this thing!
I like the way you think ! Go HAWKS !This board is depressing as hell... we have multiple all conference players and the highest seed since forever ago. Have some faith people! We can win this thing!

I’m not opining on the game but the general mood is a reflection of decades of Iowa basketball (and football) blowing it badly on the big stage.
Hawkeye Nation did an article about it a year or two ago. Iowa programs do a pretty good job of staying relevant but when the lights are brightest, they tend to wilt in big fashion.
Me too. Like a lifetime of them... 2006 is a replay for me. Hawks should have won that easily and didn't. Just want to get to one more week of hopeI have my reasons....
LOL doesn’t have anything to do with your username does it?I have my reasons....
It’s hard to be optimistic when we are the Hawks trying to get pass the second roundThis board is depressing as hell... we have multiple all conference players and the highest seed since forever ago. Have some faith people! We can win this thing!

It doesn't help that the almighty Big Ten has suffered 3 inexplicable upsets and absolutely blown 2 other games. Wisconsin actually has been the best Big Ten team so far, destroying Carolina and giving Baylor a decent game. If the conference were kickin' butt, I'd be pumped as f* right now. Instead, I'm scared sh#tless...It’s hard to be optimistic when we are the Hawks trying to get pass the second round

this is right. Those of us fans who are older have had decades of Lucy taking the ball away from Charlie Brown, so to speak, at big moments.
1970 - undefeated big 10 (14-0) Iowa team loses to Artis Gilmore and Jacksonville 104-103 in the regional semifinals.
1979 - Iowa wins Big 10 regular season title with MSU (who has Magic Johnson and goes on to win national title). First NCAA tournament game Iowa loses to Toledo 74-72 at the buzzer. Shot hits back of rim, goes straight in air, and comes down through the hoop.
1980 - Hawks end up in Final 4, but Ronnie Lester's knee injury overshadows the season. They are undefeated when he does down, team ends up 10-8 in conference. Go on a run to the Final 4. Lester scores first 10 points in the Final 5 game against Louisville, hurts knee again. Iowa loses.
1982 - Iowa loses 2nd round NCAA tournament game to Idaho in OT. Game is played in Pullman, WA.
1981 - Iowa goes 13-5 in league, 3 seed in Midwest. The thanks is to play AT Wichita State (the 6 seed). A truly nuts game as WSU was great, they have 2 future NBA players in Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr. Iowa mounts a comeback and is within 1 when an either an Iowa player or coach (can't remember who) calls timeout when Iowa doesn't have any left. Shockers get 2 shots and the ball. As you can imagine, the officiating was as brutal as you can imagine playing a true road game in the NCAA tournament.
1987 - the game that shall not be spoken of. Iowa leading by 18 at half to go to the Final 4.
1993 - tragic death of Chris Street. Just so terrible on so many levels. Books could be written on the impact of this (and have) but from a pure basketball standpoint was devastating as well.
1999 - Iowa self-inflicts wounds by having the last Sweet 16 team overshadowed by the clumsy way Iowa let Dr. Tom Davis go. Couldn't recruit off the success, all the announcers talk about is that Davis is done, not the team on the floor. Just terrible.
2001 - Iowa leading the Big 10 at 8-2 when Recker is injured. Team ends up winning the Big 10 tournament, but team prior to Recker's injury was good enough to win the league.
2005-06 - Iowa finishes 2nd in league. Don't get a conference title due to loss at Northwestern in late February it OT. Then the season ends when Northwestern State throws in the prayer from the corner in the 3-14 game.
I am leaving out plenty, but being an Iowa basketball fan has been mostly pain for the last 40 years.
